Another Araucaria.
Thompson's (we hear) once for daily news (5) and the answer is TIMES for the newspaper which is one of the themes of this one, but I don't get the relevance of Thompson?

The Thomson Corporation, Thomson without the 'p', so 'we hear', used to own the Sunday Times, Times etc.

Jono, thanks - but I feel it's a pretty feeble clue!

Cretin66, definitely not a great clue, but maybe the Thompson/Thomson thing was fairly recent at the time of the puzzle?

I suspect it was topical at the time, but hasn’t stood the test of time

A bit of furkling around the internet reveals that Thomson sold The Times in 1981, so this crossword may be a bit older than I thought! It's from an Araucaria book, so each crossword is not dated.

Another Araucaria where all the vowels are missing and we only have the consonants in the correct order.

RARELY. Live = ARE in RLY (railway). It’s a quote from Shelley. Rarely, rarely comedy thou, Spirit of Delight!
