I have this complete, all but the fourth member of the 38A, 21D, 25D group. It needs a "T", so is it 1D? (STEN = arm)

Might be jumping ahead here, but I can make a group out of 38a, 1d, 21d, 25d,

where do we get the relevant number from (8 cells) ?

This might be mad, but I wonder if the 'number' is a song?

Kirky and nelson, I'm sure the number is not a song. It's an anniversary and it's in one of the rows (2 words: 1, 7).

I've finished and I'm kicking myself for not spotting the theme earlier, after I've been looking forward to watching BBC4 tonight. I would have liked to get all the fourth group and all the correct unclued letters. I always think it's a shame if you can solve a puzzle without having to jump through all the hoops.
