Hi, Rusty!
Well, in "Centennial", in the chapter "Central Beet", a character called Tranquilino Marquez is introduced.
Tranquilino is a Mexican married to Serafina.
The couple have two sons.
The elder son Victoriano has just been shot and dies as a result of his injuries.
But the younger son, Triunfador, had already escaped to Centennial with his mother Serafina.
This is now where I am up to in the story.......
I do not know as yet whether the two characters, Tranquino and his son Triunfado, return in the saga?
But so far, there has been no confusion in the names?
I shall have to wait to see what happens next........
No news on the pup as yet........tried to ring daughter but no reply. Maybe she is still in the vets......
It is now raining here!

Hello, Elle!
I remember Tranquilino.
He refused to shoot someone when on a firing squad?
I do not remember his son, though.
Just have to be patient for news with the pup.
I am watching the golf.
It has just got under way.
Very misty in Minnesota!

Hi, Rusty!
Tranquilino refused to shoot Colonel Frijoles' wife!
This in turn saved his own life later!
It is good to be able to discuss the book with you.....in that respect, I am seeing why Rosalind likes to attend her Book Club.
But the disadvantage there, is that I wouldn't like to be forced to read a 'collective' choice, rather than a title/ subject I had chosen for myself.
I cannot see any golf advertised in my TV guide.......what are you watching?
The sun has come out again! and the blue sky! funny weather !
We are now going out with the dog.......

Hello, Elle,
My problem is trying to recall the book!
Many characters and different story lines to digest.
And he wrote many sagas!
I am watching the Ryder Cup golf.
USA v Europe at Hazeltine, Minnesota.
It's on Sky Sports 4.
It is very good.
All the players are wearing lapel pins of Arnold Palmer's trademark, a little multi-coloured umbrella.
A nice touch.
It is a nice day here, too.

Twice now the Book Club choice has been a book I would never so much as picked up, let alone chosen to read, and have enjoyed immensely. You don't have to join in any particular month!
One time I disliked the book very much indeed, but even then it was about something I'd forgotten and it was not bad to be reminded.

October's choice is mine again!

Phew Tescos had really, really loud party music. When I objeceted I was told it was for charity. I said I had no idea how blasting people's ears would do anything at all for charity and less for Tescos. Apparently it was Diabetes UK. I'd have made a donation if they hadn't been blasting my ears.

Went into town- High Street blocked, something to do with the Bishop. All buses very late

Hi, Rusty!
A good walk!
The rain didn't come back, and the sun stayed out...but no doubt it will be going dark soon though......
Now, update on the puppy.......
It would seem that there are two problems.
The specialist opthalmologist thinks that pup has a congenital condition of the retina.
The condition has just come to the forefront because of the other health problem. Otherwise it may not have been picked up until later.
It is thought that he will not go blind. but he will always have poor vision.
I don't think there is any treatment.
Otherwise, his health is good - or will be once his urinary tract infection and tummy bug are sorted out!
Not good news but could be far worse.
Daughter and the boys will not be coming for the weekend now, obviously.........she will remain at home to look after the puppy - and give him his antibiotics etc.
Yes, a nice touch wearing Arnie's logo!
How is the golf going?

Hello, Ros!
I take your point about the Book Club - but I really do not think that this is for me!
I am happy to be advised about a "new" book/ author though, but then would look into it, and choose whether or not to read it.
I do have a list of some of your suggestions!

Hello, Elle,
Well, it is not terrible news for the pup.
He should recover OK, it appears.
The golf is going very well for the Americans.
They lead 4-0 after this mornings matches.
Turned into a lovely day at Minnesota.
Course is very good.
Goodness knows what the European team will do in the afternoon session, but the momentum is with the Yanks!

Hi, Rusty!
Well, the puppy will recover from the bugs, yes, - both tummy infection and UTI -
BUT nothing can be done to improve his poor eyesight.
He will probably not go completely blind, but will have to live with very restricted vision.
That in itself is distressing news.
Fortunately not life -threatening though.
At least he has a good and caring home and they are looking after him.
I am glad you are enjoying the golf!
There was no Eggheads tonight - a "Strictly Come Dancing" programme instead.
I do not watch that.
I shall read...I have only 170 pages to go now........

Hello, Elle!
If the pup has had bad vision from birth he won't know any different, surely?
The golf is good. Europe are rallying, thankfully.
I have a bike race to watch tomorrow, too.
The Tour of Lombardy (known as the Race of the Falling Leaves.)
I think Come Dancing is very popular.
Naga from BBC is on it.
Not long with your book now.

Good morning, Rusty!
And a dreich one it is, too, now!
Fortunately the day started out well, and most of our walk was carried out in lovely sunshine ...but we only just made it back to the car before the heavy rain came!
Yesterday evening saw a lot of deaths in my book........Mervin Wendell (what a rogue!) went, as did Potato Brumbaugh ( a tough old boy!) and Jim Lloyd (an admirable character....I was sad to see him go)
There is more yet to come of Tranquilino and his son Triunfador , I think?
We had, of course, made plans for this weekend, expecting elder daughter and the boys to be with us............but their visit has had to be postponed (possibly to next w/e?) because of the pup's illness.
You have a busy day ahead of you with both golf and a bike race to watch!
