Hello, Elle!
You have found a good tradesman!
Very good!
Scrub the first man you phoned off your list.
On reflection, the fitter may have to do wee carpentry jobs on quite a few of his jobs.
Maureen was pale skinned but I would not know porcelain skin, I'm afraid.
And of course, in films, there will be make-up.

Hello, Pigale!
The male does not look ready!
But I have not seen an osprey since Tuesday.
Last I looked there was a crow picking through the nest.
We shall hear soon enough of any departures!

Hello, Pigale,
Think it is the male.
The blog has been updated.
Possibly another chick heading for Africa.

Hi, Rusty!
Still very hot - and still no sign of rain!
We have two fans going in our lounge.
The kitchen / diner is all tidied up now and back to normal!
I shall recommend our gas fitter to anyone local who needs one - he did over and above what he originally signed up for.
Well done him!
How is your lamp?
It's not dark enough to need it yet , I know - but does it look nice in situ?
Now, what shall we have for dinner......a larger choice than of late now that we have a functional oven!

Hi, Pigale!
Yes, I've just seen the one chick in its nest....I suspect it is the male judging from the size...but am not too sure.
How did the cats do with their boosters and annual check?
Hopefully, all okay?

Hello, Elle!
Lamp is fine, and it cost £7 less than advertised.
No idea why!
It has a wooden base, which I wanted.
Do you have to wash the internal bits of your oven before you cook anything in it?
Your new found friendly fitter seems a bit of a gem.
Hang on to him!

Hey, Rusty!
Is it a standard lamp that you have bought - or a table lamp?
We have wooden bedside lamps with which we have always been very pleased, but our standard lamps are metal (from Ikea!)
Now my cooker.......it is a bit of a downgrade from the previous one. This is of necessity rather than choice, as the dimensions were important, as the oven and grill had to fit into the built-in cavity (and even then some adjustment was needed, as I explained earlier!)
The previous oven was self - cleaning......the new one isn't; and, before, we had a timer on the oven......this again has had to be forfeited.
But this I can live without - the most important issue was to make sure that the appliance could fit into the built-in space under the work top.
To answer your question, I wiped down the internal surfaces with warm soapy water as recommended!
And washed the grill pan etc.
And a plus from the gas fitter....he is considering transferring in due course from being specifically a gas fitter, to becoming a general handyman!
Now, that indeed could be useful!

Good evening, Elle,
My lamp is for small table by my bed.
It is fine. Better than the exploded one.
I am not sure what a standard lamp is?
How does a cooker self clean?
I am thinking basins of water etc?
Yes, a handyman can do many things.
Hope you kept his number!
I had a look at Make Me An Egghead, but I did not take to it.

Hi, Rusty!
We are very pleased with our wooden lamps - they stand on our bedside cabinets - and don't break when the cat knocks one off!
We learnt by bitter experience NOT to have porcelain or pottery ones!
A standard lamp is a tall lamp - a 'pole' that stands independently on its own base on the floor.
It is topped with a shade of some sort.
We have three in our lounge (it is a very large room!)
I don't much like "Make Me an Egghead" - and I cannot fathom this peculiarity over the Leader board.
There should be four names on it by now, but there are only two - different yet again from yesterday! - and the highest scoring candidate's name has totally disappeared!
I think we are stuck with this programme until the Leader board is full, when they will pick the two people with the highest scores - this will take forever though if the candidates keep disappearing from the board on a daily basis !

Hello, Elle!
I am with you now on standard lamps.
I know them as floor lamps.
Why standard?
I have not noticed a leaderboard?
Sounds like the golf!
Speaking about golf....
...The US Open tennis championships are on next week.
Both Eurosport channels are covering them.

Hi, Rusty!
I have no idea why it is called a "standard" lamp!
But it is in Chambers - the definition given is "a lamp on a tall support".
Very similar to how I described it.
I looked in Brewers but nothing in there.
The Leader board in "Make Me an Egghead" comes at the end of the programme.
I cannot find any sign of tennis in my next week's TV guide - unless I am somehow overlooking it?
Although the likelihood is that it isn't being covered.
I have however tracked down the next two Diamond Leagues.
They are being shown respectively on Saturday and Sunday mornings - Highlights only though.
This means only an hour's viewing of each event!
Miserly coverage!!
