Hello, Elle!
Joshua Tree National Park is in California.
The Mojave and Sonora deserts are partly there.
Gram was a musician with the Byrds, and Flying Burrito Brothers.
He was jealous of the success George Jones had with Tammy Wynette, and eventually persuaded Emmylou to join him to form a similar band. The Fallen Angels, I think.
Everything about the story is bizarre.
The man who helped steal his corpse, Phil Kaufman, was a close friend of Charlie Manson, in jail.
Gram was a close friend of Keith Richard, who went to Gram to learn what he could about bluegrass music.
A good idea would be to Google for info.
To this day Emmylou says there was nothing between her and Gram. I do not know because I was not there.

Hi, Rusty!
What a complicated - and hardly believable - story!
I have had a look at Chris' link (incidentally, I see what you mean about Shane's teeth! they are dreadful!)
The stealing of Gram's body is totally weird, and to try to burn it in the desert......
My curiosity is aroused- yes, I shall google it, but tomorrow......too tired now.
I am giving up and going to bed....too many games of Snakes and Ladders?
G'night!

Goodnight, Elle.
Google, Gram, Kaufman, and Linda Ronstadt knows a lot.
Emmylou singing "Boulder to Birmingham" is her tribute to Gram.

Good Morning, Rusty!
Another lovely day here - we have just had a brief rain shower but the sun is valiantly shining again!
We are being very fortunate indeed compared with the rest of the country.
I have a "free" day today, in that I have no commitments other than making final preparations for family arriving to stay tomorrow (which means a reluctant dusting and hoovering!)
And some food shopping to feed eleven people for lunch on Friday, to celebrate a joint birthday bash for my husband, New Year celebration and "second" Christmas (for the family members who weren't with us on the Day)
What have you got planned for today?

Good morning, Elle!
Nice to hear from you on this fine day!
Friday will be hectic for you, I'd say.
Yes, I feel for the folk who were flooded from their homes.
We are threatened with Storm Frank, is it? this evening and tomorrow.
Are you getting a visit?
My plans?
I am ahead of the game today!
Been trying to download a photo of a statue, on my phone, and had to visit several sites to accomplish it. Success, though!
Going for a walk after my dinner and the postie has been.
(Is there a post today?)
And I am going out this evening, so, a fairly canny day.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, Storm Frank is the next to threaten the UK.
We personally are very fortunate in that we live fairly high up, and also that our nearest river is roughly five miles away!
Near enough to access when the dog wants to swim (!), but too far away to be a flooding threat for us.
The Beck is a tributary of the River Ravensbourne, which in turn is a tributary of the Thames.
There has been flooding there in past years.
I hope that you are not badly hit by the threatened storm.
What statue photograph have you been downloading?
You sound to have a busy day planned ......going out for a walk this afternoon, and then again out for the evening!

Hello, Elle!
Ravensbourne? The bourne part will be related to the Scottish "burn" meaning a stream or river, perhaps?
I have wondered about this before.
Bournemouth as mouth of the river?
I have just finished watching the Shane MacGowan documentary.
It was smashing. So are his teeth!
And his partner Victoria, is a great lady.
The statue photo is of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, in their roles as Sean Thornton and MaryKate Danaher, in The Quiet Man.
My favourite film!
The statue is in Cong, County Mayo, where it was filmed.
Yes, heading into town in the evening.
Hope the weather holds off!

Hi Rusty
We visited it in Cong. A "replica" of their cottage is also there. One of my favourite films too. I remember the first time I saw it was when I decided I didn't want to go the midnight mass on Christmas Eve, back in the 60s.
