Hi, Rusty!
I hope your son and his wife have fine weather for their sight-seeing!
Yes, you said that Miss L-B was coming to see you on Thursday in her father 's stead.
You will enjoy that!
They are lovely girls.......a credit to you and their parents.

Good morning, Rusty!
A glorious sunny day here.
Very cold though, but I was wearing my down coat whilst walking the dog, so I didn't feel the chill.
We have our dental check ups this morning!
Just got time for a quick cup of coffee, then we shall have to make tracks.......
Hopefully we shall both get clean bills of (dental) health!
I may get chance to do some of the crossword whilst at the dentist......they always have a copy of The Times in the waiting room!
Catch up with you later.....

Good morning, Elle!
It is a great day here, too, and no frost this morning.
I was out earlier.
Good luck at the dentist!
I've just finished my puzzle.
I thought it a good one, today.
My son and daughter-in-law have just left for Edinburgh airport for their flight to Venice.
My grandson is calling in, later.
So, that'll be fine!

Hi, Rusty!
Home again!
I was very fortunate and did not need any dental treatment.
( I suffered enough last time, having my wisdom tooth out!)
But my husband had to have a small filling!
It was done there and then , though, so no need for him to make another appointment.
Hopefully , all okay now for another six months!
How long does the flight to Venice take?
I have never been to Italy.....
Have you?
That is nice that you will soon be seeing your grandson.
I haven't looked at the crossword yet........

Good afternoon, Elle!
Your husband was lucky getting it done there and then!
Saves having to go back.
I have not been to Italy, too.
The Venice flight takes just under three hours from Edinburgh.
I am fairly sure my son said the transport from Marco Polo Airport to the hotel is by boat, or some kind of water transport.
My grandson comes here straight from work, then goes to his Mum's for his tea.
Very well organised is my grandson!

Hello Elle and Rusty,

It must be nice to get away to somewhere with, hopefully, temperatures
a little warmer than yours!

I have never been to Italy either, but my choice of towns to visit would
be Florence rather than Venice - Or perhaps one day in Venice,
just to see what the fuss is about!
Florence has so much artistique history, both in painting and in sculpture - What is called 'The Florentine School' is quite famous.
That is if you are interested in the Arts of course!

Hi, Rusty!
I think it sounds as though going to Venice will be somewhat of a "romantic" trip!
Going by water to the hotel sounds the "right thing to do" in Venice!
Is this visit for a special occasion?
Maybe to mark an Anniversary?
Now that I've said that, I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling that I might have asked this before?
This happens to me more and more frequently these days........I cannot always remember whether I have raised the point previously....or what I was then told in reply!
These "senior moments"!
Forgive me if I have...…

Hello, Pigale!
I am with you in liking to visit Art Galleries.....
Unfortunately , apart from when in New York, I have rarely had the opportunity for a "cultural tour"......
I do try to visit current art exhibitions held up in London, when I can.

Welcome back pigale.

I have been to both Venice and Florence (and Pisa which, like the Taj Mahal and almost no other places, is as breathtaking as legend has it. Petra and the Pyramids are also). I thought Venice appallingly overpriced and smelly. Florence was lovely and we used "Lonely Planet" to find reasonably priced and very good places to eat.
Every third shop in Verona sold expensive (I suppose, though the items weren't priced) underwear for women. Someone offered to take me back there ith tickets for the opera for a special birthday, but I declined. Who wants to sit for hours on stone seats without backs in an oven?
I stayed in Palazzuolo sul Senio on a week's walking holiday- my chief memory is of the quantity of wine another guest consumed (a major, he said) and was still able to walk faster than most of the group the next day.

Hello Ros, nice to hear from you!

I am not surprised by your memories of Venice - several friends
had mentioned the fact that it was a dirty city, and somewhat
overrated. But I suppose most people see it as a romantic
place to go, and if I ever went to Italy, I may want to see it with
my own eyes ......quickly;

I envy your knowledge of Italy, I know Portugal and some parts
of Spain (mostly in the southern half), my favourite place there
being Sevilla (which is not overrated) . I spent 5 days there and
felt it was not quite enough to see all the beautiful places the city
has to offer
Madeira is another favourite place of mine, A beautiful island.

We went back to Florence after an interval of several years last year, and were shocked by how much more crowded it was!

Talking of places that you couldn't believe could be as good as the hype, but turned out to be so, I would add the gardens of the Villa d'Este at Tivoli (near Rome).
