Hi, Rusty!
Blame all advice on my profession! It's the Biomedical Scientist in me....................!
"Can of worms" isn't in my Brewers...... I'm wondering if it's worth investing in a new one, as mine is so old? or maybe a 'used' ( but newer ) one from Amazon?
Anyway... time shortly to get organised for the dentist......

Elle, you are a biomedical scientist?
I thought you said you were a bicycle mechanic!
That is surprising about Brewer's/can of worms.
I have the 18th edition published in 2009.
It is in there.
Pigale, the Idiom's book is a slim volume compared to Brewer's. Not everything is in it.
It has a whole page on "hocus-pocus", though!

Hi, Rusty!
I'm only a bicycle mechanic when there is a full moon......................
Remember MY Brewers was published way back in 1980 - no idea what edition that makes it? Not much has been in mine when you, Jazzgirl and I were comparing info recently. If I can find a cheap alternative , I might buy it? I shall have a look at Amazon.
Well, I survived the dentist! Sheilah is a friend and so we had a nice catch up while she told me all about her family and her new extension to her house.
In between whiles, she fixed my tooth with a temporary crown!
I go back in a fortnight to have the official new version fitted.
Have you done your crossword yet today?

Hello, Elle!
Now if you were a bicycle mechanic you would get to see Le Tour close up.....and see Thibaut Pinot going up to high doh because he had no replacement bike!
I thought the crown would be a stroll in the park.
It usually is for me, anyway. I have noticed most dentists seem to be women, nowadays.
I have not opened my paper never mind done the crossword!
I am sure there will be plenty Brewers' on Amazon.

Elle and Pigale,
This is my Brewer's.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brewers-Dictionary-Phrase-Fable-18th/dp/0550104119
I have the paperback one, and it is in great condition still.
I have had books from World of Books, and Julie's, both very good.

My brewers is 1999 edition, reprinted in 2000.

Perhaps there has been several additions between my version and yours Rusty; and possibly even more since Elle's was published.

Rusty, when I clicked on that link you sent , the hardback version proved to be the 18th edition ,like you have, but the paperback was only 2001, the Millennium edition - the same one that presumably Pigale has.
Odd ? try it yourself?

And yet, Rusty and Elle, the Millenium edition was printed in both hard back and paperback - I have hard back version but my friend has the paperback one !

It may just be a fault with that link, Pigale? I’m sure it must be possible to find both editions in both hard and paper back. I'm just looking for a cheap option.
