Ros, I've got two grandsons coming to stay next week - 8 and 5 years old! maybe a 'midnight feast' in the early evening might be a good idea for them - sounds fun!

Hey, Rusty!
Thanks you for that link for the 'new' chat site. I've had a look at it since we returned home........and read everyone's comments about it - it doesn't look up to much, does it? Certainly not very interesting! The 'best' bit is their 'title' - Abcatraz is a good play on a literary reference!
Did you get the chance to watch the women's cycle road race round St. James' Park? I have just finished watching it. Most impressive! I did wonder if the cameras might show more of the surroundings, but of course they were mainly functioned on the race.
Now, I have a query...... near the beginning there was a small crash, and the competitor affected was said to be "taking a lap out"? My husband was talking to me at the same time and I missed what the commentator was saying about this. What does "taking a lap out" entail? Please can you explain?
I was shocked at how quickly the later big pile-up occurred - they went down like ninepins - it was a wonder no one was badly hurt.
And the sprint at the finish - wow!!

Hello, Elle!
No, the site looks tawdry.
But they seem happy enough!
Yes,I watched the racing.
Good to see the younger girls coming on!
In the longer track races, like the Madison, and points race, a fallen rider can take a lap out, and come back in.
Only if he/she crashes, though.
I have never seen it on the road before. It can only work on a small circuit. Not sure why it was included.
It was a short race, too. And that is the purpose of teams, to get get a fallen rider back in the race.
The crashes?
That is normal in bike races. They happen all the time.
A moment's inattention and down you go, often bringing a few more down with you.
It is a tough old sport! And you ride on, injured or not.
As you seen in Le Tour with Cancellara, Tony Martin, and Laurens ten Dam.
I am looking forward to tomorrows events.

Hello Rusty,

I was just having a look at the Tour of Poland preview, teams etc... and I simply do not know any of the riders taking part, whatever the team !

Never watched before so don't really know much about it, but is it a race where they test future talents, or are they riders who did not qualify for the Tour de France ?

Pigale, you are ahead of me, I don't know who is in it!
It is probably a second tier event, for teams who can't quite get to to Pro level.
At one time I think it was for top amateurs, like the Peace Race, and Warsaw-Berlin-Prague.
One Tour which has come on in leaps and bounds is the Tour of California. Great racing and wonderful scenery!

Elle, my bath is now decorated with patterns and pictures- I bought some bath crayons from Mothercare. Difficult to get off but also great fun. Got a whale which squirts, as well, but with two children might get too messy.
Now for a large glass......
Getting back onto (a horse, not a bike but same idea) when injured led to ten miserable weeks in hospital and 3 operations...................ages ago, though. No sympathy required, but I quit sport forever.

I think I might give the bath crayons a miss, Ros - sounds like too much cleaning required!!
I'm hoping for fine weather - they are here for a week! Outdoor activity definitely makes life easier! I'm good at football and tennis!
