Sorry, Pigale, I forgot!
"Techradar" is a very good site for info.
They test all the latest stuff and say if it is any good or not.

Elle and Rusty, thanks for your advice.

I think you are correct Elle in assuming we are very similar in our handling of technology; I have nothing against taking on something new, but I am just afraid that the new type of machines we are talking about at present are simply not suitable for my needs :

I want to print, (I also have a scanner), I want my CD roms (my favourite one is an English original version of Scrabble and I play against the computer - great fun);
but mostly, I need to be able to type various things and create files and folders - a real word processor.

Browsing the net is a bonus - I would not do without it, but it is not my ONLY priority.

I shall look at the site you mentioned Rusty - thanks.
and I have a feeling that if I were to play golf (which I don't) in your neck of the wood, I probably would wrap up warm too !!! When you mention 18c as being 'lovely', I personally thing it is b..... cold for this time of the year !!!

Pigale, this is an odd sort of machine.
I did not know until today that it does not have a Caps Lock key! I would not call that an advance!
And there is nowhere on this machine for CD's of any kind. Strangely, it has a camera, though!
No, the weather is warmish here.
The golfers are a bit soft!

Hi, Rusty!
We have been out since midday......returning at tea-time. It turned out to be such a lovely day - a temp of 23C this afternoon - that we decided to down tools, pack up lunch and the dog's water bowl, and head out for a hike. Great afternoon!
You sound as though you have had a very successful day!
You are obviously very pleased with your new acquisition and have quickly got it set up and working! I hope it does all you need it to do?
I wouldn't be without my Hudl (now that I have got used to it!) as it does allow me to multi task whilst sitting on the sofa! but I doubt I will ever progress much beyond that!
I enjoy using my desk top; it is great for my needs. I use the computer a lot for correspondence, sending and receiving emails, and typing letters.
Now...... if you are interested in taking a look at St. James' Park, in Central London, the cycling event there is being televised tomorrow on BBC2 at 6 to 7 pm. I think this might be Highlights only, from the wording ?
I don't know just how much of the park it will show you , but worth taking a look?
Jazzgirl's event, as far as I can see, is on Sunday on BBC1 at 3.05 pm until 6.35pm. If she has a better reference on another channel, I am sure she will tell us.

Hi Pigale
Because I have the use of a desktop for more detailed work I agree a Chromebook on its own isnt as useful but for emails etc it is fine and I am linked up to the printer, not having a caps lock is annoying but I am used to it now,I am a Luddite at heart so I like the simplest of machines. We won the latest match in the Ashes hooray

You know Rusty, I think the little camera is probably for talking on Skype or on Hangouts - in which case you might also have built-in microphones; so you should be able to download Skype (if not there already) and speak to your granddaughters, so long as they too have Skype.

I am sure you can manage to set it up yourself because you are more clever than you let on......., but otherwise, the girls will help you in no time.

Elle, sounds a fine day you have had!
Yes, I like my chromebook, but have only scratched the surface of it yet.
Your Hudl is a great bit of gear, especially for the money it cost!
I know the elite women are racing tomorrow night.
I thought it said Queen's Park? Is there a Queen's Park.
I do not know the calibre of the field, though, but I think Trotty is riding. She is not with Wiggle-Honda anymore, but I can't remember the name of her team.
On the Sunday main event before the race, there are around 25,000 riders! Be great to see!

Pigale, you are very much mistaken.
I am quite thick.
But I have an enquiring mind and that helps.
The little camera took a picture of me, when I was exploring.
Hangouts I have heard of, but I do not join in.
Same with Skype.
The girls actually, have been moving away from laptops and tablets. Their iPhones are all they want nowadays.
Though one has joined Amazon or somesuch, to watch films and stuff and is campaigning against a compulsory TV licence!
