Hi again,

The forum may be quiet but as far as this thread is concerned, it is up to us all to keep it lively; on the other hand, there is no point in barging in just for the sake of it - if I have nothing to say about what is being discussed, then why interrupt?

Are the youngsters still awaiting to receive their exams results ? Here the Baccalaureat 's results come late June/early July, then they go and register with the Uni of their choice during that first week of July, and that's it until September, or October for Unis. The younger forms have been on holiday since the last week of June.

University application doesn't work like that here , Pigale. The students apply beforehand for a Uni place.Their school gives the Uni an assessment of the expected grades and the candidate will probably go for an interview. If successful he / she is offered a conditional place depending on the exam results when they come out in August.
If the required grades are not met and the student isn't given that place , he/ she can go through what is called 'Clearing'

Elle,
Miss L Plate is not going to Uni.
She is going to College.
She has applied to sit her driving test, though.
It has turned cloudy here, but not cold at all.
Yes, maybe folk are on holiday..
Over on AB, some folk have started up their own site.
I wished them good luck in their venture and my post was instantly removed!
North Korea, here we come!

Sorry, Rusty, I stand corrected ! As there are colleges within universities, I obviously misunderstood.
Is the exam principle not the same then? does she already have a firm place at College - without needing to hear her exam results? Whatever, I wish her well! both in college and in the forthcoming driving test!!!
I've never been on Answerbank, what sort of site have these 'tearaway' individuals set up? ( and whatever did you say to them to get struck off ?!)
North Korea is going to be very busy - you are banishing everyone there! including yourself!

I had two brain MRI about 7 years ago, after a very very mild stroke (just a warning after a period of great stress) - anyhow, the first time, I thought I would never be able to stand absolutely still while all this noise invaded my ears - and on top of it I had a cold at the time and feared having to sneeze !

By the time the 2nd control one came, I was actually awaiting for certain noises to come and never saw the time pass !

The Calais situation is quite complex as far as I can see; there are in fact two factors, the first one being the migrants problem, but just as disturbing to traffic is the dispute between the Tunnel ferry and its employees - over 500 of them are facing unemployment after the Company has allowed a Danish firm to take over two of their ferry-trains. Hence all the barrage through tyre burning, snail operation etc - Worse of course, we are now in August, when France more or less comes to a stand still, unless the Government moves in quickly for once at this time of the year!

Elle, you are asking the wrong person.
I have not a clue how colleges/unis work.
My grandgirl starts at college in September.
I do not think she has had her final school results yet.
Answerbank is good for getting answers!
Within it there are many different sections.
I.E. History, technology, how it works, crosswords and puzzles, music, shopping, motoring, News, religion, health, etc, etc.
I like the technology bit.
You and your red buttons would be very much at home there!
There is also Chatterbank.
The way I interpret it, two ladies tried something new by setting up their own site, and it was a topic of slight controversy.
I wished them well and the moderators removed my post. I posted a new thread wishing them well and that got pulled, too.
I posted a query to site editor asking for an explanation and he/she has not had the manners to reply.
I don't really think I would last long in North Korea.
Toeing party lines and whatnot!!!

Rusty, I've had a quick look at Answerbank . I had no idea that it was run on such a large scale! I much prefer here! Much friendlier for a start .
Whereabouts would I find this new site that you mentioned ? I wanted to have a look at what was so controversial that your post wishing them well was wiped out!
But I'll have to look later......... we are going out now for a while... enjoy your cycling/ golf/ whatever is on your agenda?
Talk later.......

Elle, enjoy your outing!
The other site had an odd name. "Escape from Abcatraz" or something. I'll have a wee look to see if I can find it, later.
It would not do me at all
There are emojis and emoticons jumping up and down.
Not to my taste.

I've had a quick look at Answerbank, and it looks so serious! I suppose it might offer answers to specific questions, but we manage quite well here, and as Elle says, it seems more friendly !

I too would like to have a look at the new site you mentioned ? (purely out of curiosity !)
