Thanks, Rusty! a lovely day to be out!
Could it be 'Alcatraz'? There was a film "Birdman of Alcatraz" starring Burt Lancaster, based on the real life story of Robert Franklin Stroud, a notorious American criminal and author.
Off now...

Somthing like Abcatraz.

And to think Norah deals with questions or problems on this forum so efficiently and in a pleasant manner !

I can understand why the AB editor got upset, if these people were advertising their own "getaway" website on his site. Not good etiquette and Norah would not have permitted it on here. It looks a load of rubbish to me

I agree - just had a quick look and I noticed that in her 'welcome message' the lady says 'no grammar nazis' ............. Do you think she is referring to our exchange of views on the subject towards the beginning of this therad ?

There is a lot of banning and removal of threads and posts on AB, and I just think some thought they would start up a fun chatty thread of their own where anything goes and nothing will get removed.. I guess I am too old in the tooth, although one of our most prolific solvers on this site has joined. I will say no more on the subject.

The site looks poor to me, too.
Early days for them, though.
But I don't know that they ever advertised it on AB.
My suspicion is that it was others who joined, and then told everyone, but I am guessing.
Nor do we know if the the editor was upset.
I don't, anyway.
And I would encourage anyone, starting out on a new venture.
I don't expect everyone to do so.
It is either in your nature or it isn't, to offer good wishes.
But, I was told that neither the Ed or mods ever reply to anything. That is very bad mannered.
And if that Ed worked for me, with a non-contact attitude to his customers, he would be looking for another job, very quickly.
Rule one in my game, get to know your customers.

Of course I wish anyone who starts up a new venture good luck. I mistakenly thought it had been mentioned on AB and subsequently you added your good wishes.
I did send a message to the AB Ed. once with a query on my profile and stats. and he sorted it straight away and apologized. But that was some time ago.

Jazzgirl, it was just something I happened upon by accident. It appears to have taken place a month or two before I saw a reference to it. I do not why or what made them start their site.
And I would certainly think you ARE the type to offer good wishes, and may I apologise ,if perchance, you thought I alluded to you.
Ed did not answer my two requests for explanations.
But, I am pleased you had your queries satisfactory dealt with.
I think the moderation standards on AB are pretty poor, in general.
But, enough said, I think.
Rain here, hope it brightens in London for Laura Trott etc!
