Hello, Elle!
Letterkenny is the biggest town in Donegal!
I just watched Pat on YouTube.
That was in 2004.
He did well.
The million pound question was on horse racing.
I knew the answer!
Has Kevin Ashman ever appeared on it, do you think?
Or is he just too good to be allowed on?

Are you watching the Vuelta, rusty? Potentially interesting finishes today and tomorrow. Some are even suggesting that Sunday may not be a parade!

No, Chris, not been watching it.
Just reading what's going on.
Be nice to see Simon Yates win, though.

He did very well today - almost suspiciously well (though it was a home-from-home for him, apparently)

Hi, Rusty!
Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I know where Letterkenny is - that is why I thought you might be especially interested to hear about Pat!
He comes over as a really nice guy - quiet and unassuming, just like Kevin.
He is brilliant at Science, and in particular anything to do with computers.....and admits he likes taking them apart.....although he says it's not always as easy to put them back together again!!
No, apparently Kevin hasn't been allowed to take part on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"!
Although he has twice been a contestant's "Phone a Friend"!
I have just been talking to my daughter on her way home from the office.
She did well today......the phone connection lasted all the way to Blackheath.

P.S Rusty!
Sorry about the double salutation!
It must have happened because I had started typing just as the phone rang...…
It didn't appear to be there when I continued later.....so I began again!
Consider yourself doubly honoured!!

Hello, Elle!
My favourite on Eggheads was Daphne!
And I could not stand CJ!
I don't really know the current panel.
I think the public would like to see Kevin on Millionaire?
Pat does seem fairly quiet on Millionaire.
21a, is a new phrase for me, and 25a, and 13d, are new words to me.
A good puzzle, though!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I liked Daphne , too,
I first met her on "Fifteen to One", when William G. Stewart was the host.
My Scottish cousin, Ken, was once on that show, as well!
There are some very nice individuals on the current Egghead panel!
Why not watch it sometime?
Now..... the crossword!
I quite liked today's offering.
My favourite clues are 19a: par ( a quite neat and nifty answer!) ; and 25a: adumbrate
I have one clue I cannot do...
21a: L?Y/?Y/?H?/H?E?S
I wondered about "lay by the heels"?
But cannot see the parsing behind that? nor grasp the definition?
And three other parses to do, please?
1d: fish finger; 5d: largo; and 26d: ado
Anne B came to my rescue with both 10a and 20d!

Hello, Elle!
I used to always watch Eggheads but drifted away from it.
"Lay by the heels" is in Chambers and it is completely new to me.
It means "to fetter or enchain" if I remember correctly.
"Lay" is a song, "Wretches" are "heels".
1d, A nurse is a kind of shark, here, a "fish", which is propelled by a "fin" with "Ger" for German.,
5d, I am only guessing, but there was an old film called "Key Largo" which may or may not have something to do with the clue!
"Largo" means "slow".I think.
26,"ado", in the year AD zero. There was not a year AD zero/0.
Hope my help is understandable!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I understand 21a now... I didn't know the phase "lay by the heels", I just guessed it from the crossers.
I also didn't know that in 1d, a "nurse" is a shark!
I see that parsing , too, now.
Thank you!
And I think I have grasped 5d!
"Key Largo"(film) minus "key" (indispensible) giving "largo" = "slow and dignified" (def)
Make sense?
Thanks again!
