Hello, Jazzgirl!
That is an excellent idea about Marvel.
I have never used it, but a good idea to have it in.
I'll ask one of the girls where to find it.
It is snowing away here and we have it until Monday, the Met Office folk say.
The guys and girls on the gritters do a great job.
I think they were delivering a baby last night, just outside town.
The car taking Mum-to-be to hospital got stuck in the snow and the gritter/plough went to the rescue.
Baby safely delivered, then on to hospital with Mum and baby!

Hello rusty

Chris, you might like to tell your daughter that every single almond takes one and a quarter litres of water to produce, often in countries where it is scarce!

I keep a pack of dried milk because it's something I really don't like to do without. Can make my own bread, though I usually eat oatcakes. I wish I had some bird food but forgot to buy any.

Only 4xs can get up my hill now, and not many of them. The water wouldn't flow out of my bath earlier. Never happened before. But the important thing for me is my son made it home (he has an hour's journey on a good day).

Hi, Rusty!
I hope by now that you have heard that Miss L-B is home safely?
Did she take the car to the hospital today?
Both our daughters have phoned to report that they and their families are all well and safe...... and to check on us.
I duly informed them that we were fine..... and being "sensible"!
It was very thoughtful of them to check.
I see that you have been given lots of advice about trying dried milk....
Just a cautionary word of warning......personally, I find it disgusting!
But then I don't require milk on a daily basis.
I drink my coffee black (no sugar) and I don't eat cereal!
(Who needs milk?)
My husband, though, would be lost without his cup of tea, so we do have to buy milk!
And of course, it is used in cooking /baking/ making sauces etc.
Oops, just noticed the time... I am away to watch Laura's race....
Back shortly!

Update, Rusty!
All went well...no upsets there.
Laura ran a very sensible tactical race, didn't she?
So all the favourites are through.......

Now for the Pentathlon.......and KJT......

Hello, Elle!
Miss La Bamba is safe home, she told me.
I did not ask her about her car.
I try not to be too inquisitive with the girls.
They are grown up, now.
Now, dried milk.
I have memories of tinned milk, after the war, but I seem to remember it as sweet?
Could well be wrong, though.
I need milk for coffee and porridge.
I am sure ASDA will have milk, it is the newspapers that may be a problem.
Might buy chocolate, too!
Laura ran a sensible race.
The BBC gave a different time for the race.
It started about ten minutes before the time that they gave.

hi rusty
The tinned milk you remember was probably "Carnation" evaporated milk, very thick and very sweet.
The dried milk is not sweet.
It is not ideal, but passable in an emergency

Hello, Jazzgirl!
That's it!
It was Carnation.
Is that still on the go, I wonder?
What I am after is only for emergencies.
Monday is supposed to be the last day of snow up here, but I will get some milk substitute anyway...if I can find it!
