Hi, Rusty!
Yes, the NHS staff are really pulling out all the stops to rise to the occasion.
Good for them!
Hospital staff here are sleeping on site overnight ready to deal with emergencies - and also to be there in time for their morning shift.
Apart from emergencies cause by the extreme weather, our hospitals are being overrun with new flu cases and outbreaks of norovirus.
Yes, stay home where it is safe......
I have no intention of going out today!
Though as Rosalind and I were saying yesterday, when we were kids up North, we tramped to school in our wellies through the snow.......and, if it were cold, sat in the classroom in our coats!
I guess firstly, we were tougher......and secondly, the authorities now-a-days have more sense!
I hope this clears by Monday though, as we have to go to a funeral.

P.S. Well done on finding a use for the word "kempt"!

Hello, Elle!
An interesting story here!
Well done, the doctor!

Yes, I remember going to school in deep snow, too.
Just the way it was way back then.
I agree, the authorities are a lot more sensible nowadays.
Just finished my puzzle online.
Quite a tricky one, today.
Eyebrows trimmed now, looking kempter than ever!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, an uplifting story.......
I wonder why it is that trouble/ disaster almost always brings out the best in people and they will "rise" to an occasion......will all pull together in an emergency?
It happens time and time again.
There must be "good" inside most folk......
I have been half watching the Athletics......mainly Pentathlon and Heptathlon events.....and trying to fit in a few odd jobs.
One of the competitors - Emmanuel Korir - is stranded in New York!
The computers are down..... and he is not being allowed out if the States as a result!
I haven't started the crossword yet.
Tidy eyebrows , too?
Yes, "kempter" indeed!
(I wonder should that be "more kempt"?)
Our sky is becoming a most peculiar yellow......more snow?

Hello, Elle!
Laura runs at 19.48 this evening.
Just been reading about her "taxi journey".
Taxi was booked when her flight was cancelled due to snow.
Also, no train running.
Driver took her and her coach from Glasgow to Brum.
Cost £1500, paid for by British Athletics.
She said the trip was "horrific", especially at Carlisle.

Yes, there are always heros and heroines when the going gets tough.
That surgeon will be one of very many who went over and above what was expected.
I think "kempter" is a fine upstanding word!
Still snowing here but not as heavy as earlier.
It could last until Monday, apparently!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, thank you for the specific time of Laura's 1500m race.
That is very useful to know.
Yes, Gaby was just talking about Laura's taxi journey.......she remarked that British Athletics had paid the fare, but wondered whether Laura might be expected to pay it back later!
I think she was joking!
Did you see/ hear that an entire heat of the Men's 400m was disqualified?
Apparently for the first time in IAAF history!
One competitor was disqualified at the beginning for a false start ......and the others after the finish of the race for lane infringements.
We were shown a flash -back and, according to Steve Cram, it was obvious in all but one of the runners.
There may be cause for appeal in that particular instance.
Eilidh Doyle and Zoey Clarke did well in their respective 400m heats and have qualified for the Semi- Final at 8.30 pm tonight.
Well done, them!
I am on the Red Button now...watching Kat JT in the Pentathlon!

Hello, Elle!
Not had the Athletics on today, Elle.
Maybe Nike would pay it for Laura?
Been watching the weather.
The wind is getting up again.
It's snow joking matter.
My oldest son and family are almost snowed in, but their refrigerator is full, they say!.
They live at one of the high points in the city.
Not seen a postie for a few days either.
And Pine Cone is closed over the weekend.

Hi, Rusty!
It is snowing heavily again here......
The problem now is that the ground freezes every night......and then the fresh snow falls on top of all the ice.
Very treacherous!
But of course it is the same for everyone.......we are all in the same boat.....
( Up the creek without a paddle! )
We have a full fridge and freezer so shall manage nicely, without the necessity of going to the shops.
My daughter has suggested that we postpone our family meeting and birthday celebrations until the following weekend, because of the severe weather.
I think this is an excellent idea, as no one wants to drive any distance under these conditions.
And Sunday, March 11th, will make it a triple celebration!
Daughter and YB's birthdays, plus Mother's Day!
I am looking out of the window next to me...and already footprints and pawprints are covered by the fresh snow...and we were only out there twenty minutes ago!
More Athletics at 5,50 pm., should you be tempted.......

Hello, Elle!
There is a blizzard here, a bit like the Pribilofs!
Just awaiting news that Miss La Bamba is safe home!
Apparently some shops have no bread or milk.
I am going to ASDA in the morning, I am short of milk.
And if Associated Dairies don't have milk, then I am in trouble!
There is a big bike race in Tuscany tomorrow, over gravel roads, but apparently there is snow and ice covering the roads so no idea if they will race or not.
I will definitely tune in for Laura's race and some of the cycling.

Hello Rusty
If the shops and dairies have no milk, try and see if they have tins of dried milk such as Marvel, or their own brand . I always keep a tin in the cupboard in case of emergencies.
It is bitterly cold and windy here with more heavy snow. But I managed to start the Jazz and drove round the block. Roads not too bad and some have been gritted. I did not exceed 20 mph
There is a little bit of hope for a temperature of 5c tomorrow and 9c on Sunday with sunshine. I hope the forecasters have it right
Stay safe all

Our daughter (who has been vegan for 6 months) announced with some delight that, although there was no cows milk in the Co-op, there was lots of almond and soya milk!
