Placido was born in Madrid but he and his parents moved to Mexico when he was 8 - he studied music/singing at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, and I believe he was only 16 when he first performed in public.

just anyone is interested !

Hi Rusty!
Sorry if I confused you - all the matches changed channels just after I'd messaged you!
I've spent most of the time watching James Ward(British) - great to see him win!!
In between I've been channel -hopping to keep an eye on the other matches!
Good too to see Andy win! and nice to see Sabine Lisicki win hers- she's been doing well at Wimbledon over the last few years.
I gather you were supporting her opponent, Christina McHale?
I don't know anything about Teaneck, New Jersey? In fact, I'd never heard of it?
No, I don't know Jane Richardson - but of course have heard of some of the others you mentioned.....Pat Boone, Placido Domingo, Ricky Nelson ,Sarah Jessica Parker........
My elder daughter lived in Jersey City when they were working in America for three years ( our eldest grandson was born there so has dual nationality)
Roger Federer is now playing so back to the tennis... I should like to see him win the Mens' Singles' Title!

P.S. Sorry, Rusty, only just seen the other post....
Thank you for sending the link.....
I don't pay by Paypal - so is this why I haven't received any vouchers?
Maybe mystery solved?
Sorry you're going to miss Victoria.....never mind, there's some good tennis to watch....

Elle, my info regarding Teaneck was wrong.
There are instuctions on how to read the page which I ignored.
I liked Pat Boone, too.
No, I watched Lisicki because I recognised the name.
McHale is new to me.

Elle, nor do I.
If you go to their site you will find lots of offers.
They are at West Sussex. Is that near you?
The Sunday Times were impressed by them.
I have been reading about Roscoe Tanner.
He has been in and out of jail for many years.
He was quite a good player in his day.

Rusty, I will investigate any potential offers through World of Books later on... when tennis isn't at such a crucial stage..... well, not that you can say it's crucial!Roger is walking it!
I've just had a quick shifty and looked where World of Books is based....you're not going to believe this, but it's in Goring - by - Sea where one of my close friends lives! How about that ?!
But no, not anywhere near us!
I remember the name Roscoe Tanner- cannot put a face to it?
Didn't he have the fastest serve eve,r at that stage of the Championships, or have I got the wrong man?

Elle, I remember Tanner being called the man from Lookout Mountain, which was very apt, I thought, as his serving was ferocious.
He had the fastest serve in his day.
Goring-by-sea?
Bullfights?
I have not heard of it, Elle.
I remember a few years ago going to a funeral in Stockton on Tees, and as I drove South across the border I saw a signpost indicating Shilbottle.
But, someone had added a crosspiece to the 4th letter, making the "l" into a "t".
I could not wait to get back home to tell everyone about the comical name I had found in England.
Made my day.
And, the crematorium at Stockton was very nice, too.
