Thanks Elle. I thought of putting it on AB but it's mainly modern stuff they talk about.
Here goes: my family and I had a hotel near the West Hants Tennis club and circa 1955/6 (could be a bit later) among our guests were members of the Davis Cup Team, Billy Knight, Michael Davis, John Barrett, Roger Becker, and Colin Hannam
Ulf Schmidt(Swedish tennis player) was also a guest.
While they were with us, their matches were on TV (black and white ) and I would watch and cheer Billy Knight ) But I cannot find any details of the matches/ where they were playing and why it was broadcast on national TV.
Would the West Hants club have been that prominent? They signed my autograph book (apart from Ulf who was grumpy as he had sprained his ankle !) (and he left us for a grander hotel ;)

Elle, no, I did not know about Val Doonican.
A pity. I liked him.
I never ever knew he sang the theme for Ring of Bright Water? I cannot remember a song in that?
Weather quite pleasant here.

Hi, Jazzy!
I'm sorry but I'm afraid I cannot really help you here as I don't know much about it.
I know some of the names you mentioned, Becker, Barratt and Knight especially. I think they all became known around the mid 1950s.
The West Hants Club (Bournemouth )is of course very famous, as you 'll know.
It hosted the British Hard Court Championships there
for many years - I think the first one was late 1930s?
Are you looking for Davis Cup matches in which these players performed? or could they have been playing in the British Hard Court Championships?
I'm wondering this as they were staying so nearby?
I've tried googling this but can only come up with names like Virginia Wade, Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall and Ann Haydon-Jones as having played in the British Hard Court Championships.
Sorry, Jazzy ! not much help!

Hi, Rusty!
And Delaney's Donkey and O'Rafferty's Pig......not to mention all his "rocking chair" songs.....he was such a 'relaxed' singer - i think that it is what I most remember about him.
My three books arrivedf rom World of Books this morning! All in very good condition , especially the hard back which looks brand new!
No 10% off voucher though? I don't know why you should get one, and I don't? ( not that it's a lot of use to us if it's only 10% of 1p!)
Has your book about Father Flanagan arrived from America yet?

Thanks Elle. You have been very helpful, as I had written on the page, "davis cup team" . I am now thinking I must have added this this some time later, probably in error. . I shall now start searching the British Hard Court Championships" instead and hopefully solve it.

Elle, you are a genius. I have just re-googled, using your latest info. and found this: (although Ulf seems to be missing, so it may have been a year later) will carry on searching.
