There's the story of the 3 engineers travelling together in a car. The engine splutters and conks out.

"Let's clean all the spark plugs" says the electrical engineer.

"Let's strip down the fuel pump" says the chemical engineer.

"Let's close all the windows, then open them again and see if it starts" says the IT engineer.

Hi, Rusty
I knew the 'leap second' had to have a hand in it somewhere!

Well done, Miss Around the World! What subject did she read at Uni? What does she plan to do now?
You'll have to print off the best photo of her in her graduation gown and frame it!

Yes, I've been to Wimbledon many times when much younger. We used to go after work... in those days if you paid the entrance fee to get in, some kind person leaving early would be certain to hand you their tickets for either the Centre Court or No 1 court and you could watch some first class tennis for 'free'!
I believe now that tickets are handed back in and resold - for charity, I think?

The last time I went was a People's Monday- we queued outside for hours, and then only got to watch the match on Henman's Hill, as all seats for the Centre Court were sold out. A great atmosphere though!
It's a long time now since I went there!

Yes, there are 'Seniors' matches' at Wimbledon - sometimes if viewing time allows, you may find them being shown on television. Look out for them - some good old favourites participate!

Yes, I remember your mentioning Victoria Pendleton previously ....I hope you get to see her racing tomorrow.

Elle, it was Fine Arts and Design, I think it was called.
She has started a new job last week and is very pleased.
She is taking me for an ice cream next weekend in her new motor!
I shall look out for the seniors!
Is Tim classed as a senior or too young yet?
Victoria is in a charity race.
She has a sponsorship with Betfair.
The aim is to have her compete in the Foxhunters at Cheltenham next year.
It is still very warm here but about ten degrees cooler than the London area!

Rusty, I have a feeling that last year, Tim , in an interview with Sue Barker (whom he apparently calls 'Auntie Sue off screen) said that he wasn't taking part in the Seniors' matches- but I could well have dreamt that?
All ages play as far a s I know once they no longer compete in Wimbledon 'proper'.
For some it is obviously also a social event but even for the few that few play the fool on court, the tennis is still cleverly executed.
Well worth watching if you can chase up a few matches - they are difficult to find tho'.
You're lucky to have it ten degrees cooler than us - nightmarish here... I doubt I'll sleep much tonight!
I don't "do" (as my daughter would say) heat!

Good morning, Elle!
I don't do heat either!
At present we have thunder rattling o'er the skies and heavy rain. It will clear the air or raise the dead!
I think I remember Auntie Sue winning the French Open?
I am sitting here listening to Pete Seeger.
Could listen to Goodnight Irene all night!
And I have not attempted my crossword!!!
Pete died earler this year. Think he was about 94?

Elle, a disturbed night!
No sleep with the thunderstorm, I'm afraid!
No powercut though, and...it has passed!
Sorry to hear the England women footballers did not make it past Japan. For me, the women play the game in the correct manner, unlike the professional men's game where cheating and simulation are the norm, and encouraged.
Rant over!

Morning everyone,

How are you all this morning, and how did you sleep?
Sorry you had a disturbed night Rusty ; is the weather pleasanter today?

I see that temps at Wimbledon yesterday were almost as high as Centre of France, can't have been comfortable for the players, and probably not so for spectators either. (I wonder if it is not bordering on being dangerous for players?)

Here no thunder, a warm night with 23C and 30C at 9am with a hot south-easterly breeze, so that it feels more like 32/35C- I now have the two ceilings fands going plus a portable one that I carry around with me when I move from one room to the other. Shutters closed of course, but thank goodness we have them !
