Hey, Rusty!
Right! Okay!
You have spoon fed me through two of the clues!
I came up with "sagamore" for 1a, but don't remember it from one of Mr M's books?
I had to look up the meaning to check it meant "chief".
I would have been an idiot if I hadn't got "Let it be"! ( "Amen" was a good clue but not subtle!)
I have now done the top left hand corner of the puzzle - I am always systematic!
But have given up because I am not enjoying it!
4d led to some nostalgia.......I have been thinking of Rowdy Yates!
3d was a good anagram.
My daughter phoned and we are meeting up for lunch tomorrow.
That will be nice.
Now....back to considering usages for my rope.......

Hello, Elle!
Quite right, put it away if it is not any fun.
My last one in, (took me ages!) was 27a.
The Newcastle centre postcode.
NE1 (anyone)
It is quite good, but are we to fathom out postcodes for far off cities, now?
Was Pentaquod not linked to a sagamore?
Or was it in "Alaska"?
"Let It Be" was not much of a song, I did not think.
I liked Rowdy Yates and Gil Favor!
What for are you needing a rope?

Hi, Rusty!
I should never have got that homophone - "NE1" sounds like "anyone"!
It is a good one, though! certainly unusual and dare I say far-fetched?
It takes a tortuous mind to think of that!
Ah, I have still to read "Alaska".
I put it to one side after reading Mr. M's autobiography.
I found myself rather disliking him, and didn't fancy reading any more of his books for a while.
Did you not find that after reading what he had to say for himself?
Why am I needing a rope?
I am reading my seventh book by Miss P, entitled "A Rope - in Case".
She is teaching me its various (often unexpected) uses!

Hello, Elle!
Usually if Newcastle is in a clue, it means NE for North East. (I think)
This post code malarkey is a new one!
Though EC is often used for City (of London)
I felt down to my boots that was the reason you have never mentioned "Alaska".
It sickened me that he and whatever wife he had at the time had returned their adopted children to an orphanage.
Horrible people!
Throw "Alaska" in the bin and feel cleaner!
I think I have ordered "A Rope".
There is another book I have came across that I am going to buy.
"Island on the Edge" by Anne Cholawo.
It is about her life on Soay (and she admits to having a husband!).
Seventh?
Have you read six of Miss Peckwitt's books already?
Jings !!!

Hello, again, Elle!
I have been meandering through YouTube, and guess what...?
I came across a video of Anne Cholawo's "Island on the Edge" on Soay.
Lasts about 7 minutes (there is a Part 2, too, but I shall watch that tomorrow.)
I like the look of Anne and her husband, and also the wonderful island of Soay.
Very "Miss Peckwittish!"
Wonderful scenery and wildlife.
Have a wee look?

Hi, Rusty!
Lordy, no, I just cannot count!
I am on my fourth book!
"A Rope - in Case" is the first book of the Second Hebridean Omnibus.
The books are very "moreish" aren't they?
I find it hard to put one down!
Still no sign of a husband.......
I wonder if there is a "proper" (truthful) biography about Lillian Beckwith / aka Miss P?
I am not sure what to do about "Alaska"........I was enjoying the series of books until I read Mr. Michener's autobiography......and yes, it was the part about the children that so upset me.
I may put it on hold until such a time has gone by that I can forget the background.
Anyway, it is late now.....and I am away to my bed.
Oidhche mhath!

Our posts crossed, Rusty......
I took a long time typing as I wandered off in the middle to get a coffee!
Yes, I'll take a look at that tomorrow!
It does sound interesting.

We've crossed again!
I've just taken a look at the blog - what a curious squirrel - I think he nearly got more than he bargained for!
Lassie though didn't seem too perturbed?
Now...I really am going to bed!
G'night!

Good morning, Rusty!
An extremely warm and humid one......most unpleasantly "heavy" - and very wet!
I have just had a look at the video about the Isle of Soay.
Are the people in the video Anne Cholawo and her husband?
What a wonderful place in which to live!
And such trust that bird showed when it returned to the man (Anne's husband?) in the boat.
I shall have to buy the Times today, as John says there were no crosswords in his online paper this morning!
I wonder what has happened.......
Are the puzzles there in the printed version of the Times?
I am away out soon to meet my daughter and YB!
