I thought it was a good, as in plausible, theory? No?

( and the jury is still out on whether I shall forgive you!)

I probably should not have agreed with Jazzgirl's suggestion, no....
But, I was momentarily bereft of wisdom, pondering "poggy". Hence "OK".

I am now convinced you meant "soggy"!

Well, it is a lovely evening here.
Makes a nice change!

Rusty,
It's all right, I was only joking! I did realise what you meant- I just couldn't resist teasing you!

but ,no, I did NOT mean 'soggy'! Wait till Chris comes online, he might know the word 'poggy'

Sorry all - never heard of "poggy".

However pogonophobia is a fear of people (I was going to say men) with beards. Walt Disney was a notorious sufferer.

I think I shall emigrate!

Wonder if they still do £10 fares to Australia?

Chris, do you think the local word 'poggy' could come from 'pogonotomy' meaning 'shaving'? ie using water /getting wet?
It seems a possible theory? The word 'poggy'( meaning being wet) was well used when I was a child growing up in Bolton.

You could swim there, Rusty - but you'd get a bit poggy!

I never heard it in Blackburn, and I worked there for 30 years.

(We always thought the people from Bolton were a bit strange, though...................)

my last post was in reply to post 1277 but by the time I had posted it, another post had been posted, if you see what I mean.
