Just consulted her outdoors - Blackburn girl born and bred - and she's never heard it either. She added "but Bolton was a long way away" - presumably it took a long time in a stagecoach.

Any way, I left her to enjoy the weeding.

Hi, Rusty!
Don't go to Australia......all is forgiven.......
Seriously though .... I'm very disappointed to hear about the aforementioned tennis players. Agassi and McEnroe are great favourites of mine, especially John McEnroe who nowadays seems to have matured into such a nice guy! And Djokovic also seems so genuine.
Has any of this been 'proved' or is it all conjecture?
Oh, but hang on, didn't you say some of them had admitted taking drugs?
Well, I'm thoroughly disillusioned!
I cam believe anything of Serena Williams though - that "panic room" business was so weird, wasn't it?

It's a lovely day here, too, now - we obviously chose the wrong time to go out! - the sun is now shining, the sky is blue and - we've just been Skyped by our two grandsons who live in the Midlands - so all is well with the world!

I've just been looking through my small collection of French EP's and found 3 by Richard Anthony, two dated 1963 and one 1966. I have even written the date on the 1966 one, so it must have had some significance for me, but I cannot recall why. His name sounds English, but he has French looks. They are French versions of English hits some co-written with Tony Hatch, Lennon and McCartney and Paul Simon

Hey Jazzy - Richard Anthony was indeed a stage name;

He was French, but probably naturalized to since he was born in Egypt - his real name is Egyptian, but I think he must have come to France very young for he had no accent whatsoever.

I liked some of his hits but not all - found him a bit 'slow' and a bit on the 'fatty side' !
Well, you know how cruel young ladies can be!

I appreciate your help pigale.
I now think it is time to pass them on, to a charity shop. Vinyl is now selling well here.
I will keep the Charles Trenet one though !

Oh, well, maybe I will stay!
The 4 I mentioned have either failed drug tests or admitted it. McEnroe apparently took steroids which would contribute to the ranting and raving he did, according to the experts.
Vast majority of my old cycling heroes were the same. Anquetil, Merckx, Coppi, Bahamontes all at it.
One of my present day heroes, Fabian Cancellara, has even been accused of having a tiny motor concealed in the frame of his bike.
Sport is not a level playing field.
Marita Koch set the 800 meters world record in 1985 and no woman has come close to matching it, since then. She said her, and Barbel Wockel, got more drugs than the other East German runners.
Can you think of any British runner that set a record that no one is getting close to. I can.
Drugs are everywhere in sport, unfortunately.
Too many blind eyes being turned.
Huge money at stake.
A fine evening here, too!

Charles Trenet nicknamed by the French people as
'Le fou chantant', because of his weird blue eyes.
La Mer is about the only song I could bear from him, but there again he was very famous just 3 or 4 years too early for me.

My favourite song by Richard Anthony is Aranjuez, mon amour' - poetic words put to the music of part of the famous Concerto.
