Yes, I do, Elle! We grew up having heroes and many have turned out to have feet of clay.
If I tell you a wee secret will you keep it to yourself?
I don't actually think that ostriches bury their heads in the sand. An urban myth!

Well, I am going to bury my head in my pillow, and this not a urban myth! I need my beauty sleep

Night all, sweet dreams.

I have an 'out' there, Rusty! I did say "proverbial"!
But you're right - to find out that one's 'heroes' don't measure up to the high standards one expects of them can be a bitter/ sad blow.
Maybe we expect too much? after all, they are only human?
But no, I don't think so - anyone putting his/ her self out there in the public eye should surely expect to conform to certain (high) standards? it's almost obligatory.

In my experience of top sportsmen I have met, they have one thing in common. They think only of themselves and are very selfish.
They would possibly not be the success they are if they thought of others.
Nowadays they will be required by sponsors to act like decent human beings, though.
It is perfectly normal for us to have sporting heroes.
I like to see young ones doing well.
Must be an age thing!

Well, Rusty, I guess it is an age thing in a way? After all, the young ones ARE the future....
But you have more faith in the young of today than I do... I shudder at the behaviour of some of those I meet /see around me!
But then you have a very good example in your grandchildren who are lovely young people from what you've said about them.
Whereas my grandkids are great , but the eldest is 7(!)and too young to fit into the category we are talking about.
I hope they will grow up to be caring responsible young adults like your grand children are, but that's a way off yet.
How's the golf going?

Och, my man has fallen away a bit, but still six holes to go.
I like the young people! I love being a granddad.
It seems to be what I was put on Earth for, you know.
The young ones are proud to have a granddad who they think is half mad.
Elle, as your gang get older they will take to you more.
And you can teach them your quaint words etc.
It will be wonderful!

I cannot for the life of me fathom where these earworms come from!
Why have I got "The Old Grey Goose is Dead" in my head!
Life is a mystery!

Good morning, Rusty!
It's another lovely one, too!
That is such a lovely thought...thinking that you were put on earth to be a grandad - no wonder the girls love you so much! and want to spend so much time with you!
We love being grandparents, too. Our are so much younger, it's a different ball game with them at the moment, but it's fun watching them develop and hopefully being an important part of that.
What was the outcome of the golf?
And how is the grey goose doing this morning?
