Hello, Elle!
I think the setter is using Bow/Arch for both meanings.
I believe Bow is part of East London, so there is a fair chance the Marble Arch would be West of it?
You will have to learn a wee bit about cricket, Elle!
It is plain there are one or more Times setters who use cricket terminology and it has been in use in puzzles for yonks!
Yes, I would say guy could mean cat.
No, the Oscars were on too late.
I was up late enough watching the golf!
A simple blunder, I think, with La La Land.
Viola Davis won an Oscar.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, you are quite right - Bow is in the Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London.
"Being born within the sound of Bow bells" makes one a "Cockney"!
The bells ring from the church St Mary-le-Bow.
I have never been there, though.
I find these constant cricket references in crosswords very annoying!
I do not like cricket - I have heard watching it being compared to watching paint dry!
I would not disagree!
I still do not know who is Viola Davis?
Why did she win an Oscar?
I have just been watching "15 to 1".
I think Sandi Toksvig does a good job as question master.
(Is one still a question 'master' if one is a woman?)

Hello, Elle!
St Mary-le Bow?
is the "le" part French?
It is very similar to Marylebone?
Is there a connection?
Now, listen, nobody says you have to like cricket to do the crossword!
But, if you look in the newspaper at the results of a cricket match you can see some of the abbreviations that the setters are tormenting you with!
You'll soon pick them up!
Why should not Viola Davis win an Oscar?
She won fairly and squarely.
If Paddy P had better odds for her I was going to have a wee bet on her.
I do not know Sandi Toksvig.
She may be a "master".
i notice a lot of actresses are called actors these days.

Hi, Rusty!
In "days -gone - by", I believe that "Marylebone" used to be "Mary-le -bone".
There was a church called St Mary at the Bourne, which came to be known as "St Mary-le- bone" - hence the eventual name of the area.
Whether or not it bears a connection to "St Mary-le- Bow", I cannot tell you!
I was just wondering who Viola Davis is, and what she does?
Is she an actress, a director, a screenwriter.....?
I was enquiring for what category she received her Oscar?
(I am sure that, yes, it was very well deserved!)
Apparently, we are going to have heavy winds and wintry showers overnight ! with a morning temperature of 2C.
I do hope that they are wrong!

Good morning, Elle!
Great day here, but pretty cold!
Maybe this is Storm Ewan you are getting?
Thanks for the info on Marylebone.
The Bourne would be water?
Viola Davis is an excellent actress/actor, whatever!
She played opposite Denzil Washington in "Fences" and won Best Supporting Actress.
I am off to see the nurse soon.
And I'll collect my car, if it is OK.
And that will be my morning taken care of!

Good morning, Rusty!
We have a glorious morning, too - blue , sky, and sunshine.
Only 2C though, so a tad chilly!
The walk was very enjoyable - sunshine has a great psychological effect in that everyone is cheerful!
Yes, a bourne is a small stream.
I am wondering whether you are at home now....or still out visiting the nurse and checking up on your car?
I hope the visit to the practice nurse is simply a routine check - no problems?
And has your mechanic got to the bottom of the car's starting problem?
Did you have to take another minicab to get to the garage, or is it walkable?

Hello, Elle.
The next storm is "Fleur", which I do not know how to pronounce! Flooer?
Still very nice here.
Ice has melted.
It was phlebotomist I saw.
Will see one of the nurses on Friday regarding MOT.
My motor has been thoroughly checked.
Nothing found.
Advice? Drive it a bit more often to keep battery in top shape.
Cost. Nothing.
Quote "No charge, we did not do anything but checked the charging etc."
So, that's that!
My grandson took me to garage.
He is not at Uni today.
Have you tackled your crosswords yet?

Hi, Rusty!
Well, that is certainly good news about your car!
(You can drive it uphill when you go to see your son!
A good excuse for not "climbing" the gradient!
Or would it be too far to walk there, anyway?)
Good for your grandson in taking you to the garage!
I hope your blood tests will prove as satisfactory, when you go back to see the nurse on Friday!
So what happened to Storm Ewan? Has he gone?
How come we now have Fleur?
It is the French word for "flower" and is pronounced Fl + "er" ...as in a hesitation.
Leastways, that is my best effort at reproducing the phonics!
Crosswords?
I did the QC early on......I usually do that whilst drinking my coffee and eating my apple, on my return from the park.
I am just taking a look at the 15 x15 now.....having finished all my jobs.
I am about two-thirds through........I liked 7d!
And, hey, I did a cricket clue!! 8d!
I won't go into further detail in case you haven't done yours yet?

Bird that cannot fly back, reportedly (4)
