Well I had LEER too because it just had to be correct - it meaning "to ogle" but that's as far as it went.

The one which totally misled me was 47D which I was convinced was "LATE" (i.e. Dead) being the alternate letters in regularLy At ThE until I got 51 across that is!

Really looking forward to the next one!!

I must have gone wrong on 51d as I still have LATE for 47d.

Wendy,

I never even noticed that with LATE.

I used DeAd DrOp because Dead drops are supposedly used by people who are up to no good, like spies and other unsavoury characters, so at the border (DADO) worked well with the fluidity of the clue because it evokes a sinister espionage type contact between countries.
Too much thinking, I know!

I am pleased to see that I completed this fantastic puzzle correctly, although I never even gave espionage a second thought for 47 down, I have a dado rail around my dining room and it used to have a border above it, (terribly dated now I know) so got that one quite quickly. As well as thanking you Les40 I have to thank syzygy for the Tom Swift clue - I'd never heard of him, but have enjoyed googling and learning more

Well, I never guessed we would hit 200 posts. What a result that was.
I hope all the others (including you helenB) will get involved next time.

The new grid is almost ready and I will post the email address again next Wednesday (1st Feb) and will await the emails coming in to gauge how much interest we have. and then issue the words to all concerned.

Thanks all, Les40
