Good luck Bullfrog - I'm not certain that you should be straining your eyes though, but understand this has been (and is still being) a very important event in our lives, thanks to Les40.

I still have 33down and 10down unsolved which is really irritating.

But that's the name of the game isn't it? If it was too easy, nobody'd want to play!

Those of you clever gits who've got 33 down - is this Joan (the compiler's) DRY sense of humour. (Or haven't I still not got it right??!!)

@ Wendy: assuming it's OK to help a maiden in distress just a little ---
for 10d take the first three words of the clue literally, for the position think of a word that's more often a verb than a noun, and you have the Italian version of what you've considered again & again up till now
for 33d:for "discussion" look for a word that usually refers to a kind of musical monologue;the rest (definition) I've already posted s'thing that should be useful.
Hope no-one's upset, but I can't bear to think of you torturing y'self any longer!

Thanks, I'm now positive I've got 33d though I don't like the clue.

Will have another look at 10d and get my prayer mat out of the attic!

Wendy, if it helps think of position in a golfing sense

Crikey! EU-bloody-REKA!!!

The misspelt relief is enormous. It would have helped if I hadn't had UNSEEN for 21a.

Thanks to all for the help.

I know it is only 12.10 GMT but I must have some sauvignon blanc before Aristo and syzygy wake up!

MANY CONGRATS TO EVERYBODY INCLUDING OUR HERO LES40 OF COURSE.

Enjoy your wine Wendy.
Finally got 33d around midnight, and just want to add my congratulations to Les and all the gang who set the clues.
This was BRILLIANT. I can't wait for the next one.

I've resisted looking at the threads until now as I got off to such a good start I thought I had cracked it, but I still have five to do (including 45 across and 43 down which seem to have caused problems for others) but would welcome any hints on 27 down which if I can get it will surely help me to complete 31 across and 41 across, HELP!!

I found it easier to get 31a first and that helped with 27d.
So 31a think Roman numeral for ten.
41a sounds like cheeses(French)
