Pardon my Latin @159. It's been a long time since high-school. They stopped teaching it decades ago. I wonder how our new doctors & lawyers acquire their gibberish.

Blah, blah, blah!

I meant "modulo 10".

Was that some sort of jest? Wendy @137

Yes, a feeble attempt at one. I found it somewhat amusing that I'd be drinking Sauvignon Blanc while you were both asleep. I didn't realise that HTML tags must be lower case. Thanks for that. Have a lovely weekend.

"The Kraken Wakes"

Not you, just the whole British countryside.
John Wyndham, one of my favourites.

See, trevor?
& I know how you did that.

And I'm off to bed.

First of all, thanks a million for Post 159, Syzzie. I don't think anyone here suspected, and now you may have ruined my chances with pastille.
Re your 27d clue, I don't get the Tom Swift thing. It occurs to me that it would work well as a prompt for "inventive" treatment, but that doesn't seem to be what it's for. If my answer is right it's a mystery. By the way, I didn't know that the taser was named after him.
Sorry about the online query. All right, all right, you can have your laptop back, but it's your turn to make coffee.

Realized after rereading, that it could be misinterpreted, and expected trevor to jump in with an off-colour remark. But Wendy started it.
No worries. I think they all know we're on opposite coasts.

Re Tom Swift:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/6nvndkx

I know it's a bit of a stretch.
"lightly" refers directly to the answer,
& also indirectly as in
"Light" implies “clue”,
"Lightly" in the manner of  “cluing in”.

Read the examples. It's more of an Americanism, so I was concerned about the UK solvers.
I hope that's clear.

trevor,

At #163 I underlined "favourites" because you disliked US spelling, which is usually clued in cryptics.

At #165, it was a reference to your frequent witticisms.

You know, I'd totally forgotten about those apt adverbs. All is clear. I wonder if Brits ever read the Hardy Boys mysteries- pure junk, and one of the joys of childhood. I loved the "Chet chortled"s and "Frank opined"s, but it was the adverbs that were truly hilarious. And didn't you just love Iola Morton? I mean who wouldn't?
