'Can that really be so?'

I'd go as far as to say, that it what the message says.

Look at the spces between the circled cells. They correlate with a title. Hope this helps

Just noticed a loose end. I have no idea how the crossword title ties in to the theme.

Smthsax do you think it may be a cryptic synonym for the festival bird?

Thanks guys, though I can hardly believe it. Re the spacing, do the circled cell symbols form part of the title?

I now have the title, assuming it is not another red herring.
Might it have been useful for Hendrix back in '69?
But still no closer to finding how to represent 11/6.

lewap, if you Google the destination you've found and the 11/6 phrase you may find inspiration. Mine came as a voice from the sofa 'didn’t xxx talk like that?'. I do feel that the fourth word of the message is not accurate, the new content of an individual uncircled cell in rows 5 and 6 doesn’t 'symbolise' the previous content.

Greengage - yes I thought that after it had held me up for a good while but on reflection I think it is fair. The word is applied to the colour, not the content of the cells.
