Brendan, the bonus feature I referred to is the perimeter Nina.
Missed 16d/11d, understandably since I'm ignorant of it. :-)

Agreed with jono@15 re. 11. Was unfamiliar with the 2nd defn; that's one of the three clues for which I had to google to verify solutions.

Well I can honestly say this won't be a quick solve for me. But I shall persevere throughout the day. It's taking a while to get into Soup's wavelength.

Regards to the Nina. Does it include the left hand edge. Because none of the answers I have seem to make viable words either up or down?

Can anyone explain the parsing of 10? I’ve got 3 letters including the one from the Nina and am assuming the definition is the first word of the clue. But don’t get the wordplay.

Rocky, yes it does, but don’t worry that those letters don’t make sense. Your browser will make sense of them when you have the complete string.

Castafiore, 10 parses 1,4 where the 4 is a five letter word for sacked minus the first letter (late starting).

Take one letter from the clue, then a 5 letter word for "sacked", with the first letter left off.

Hi Castafiore,

10a - 1 letter "hour" followed by last 4 letters/'late starting' of 5 letter "sacked" - definition is "employed"
