I did the exact same thing Geeker.

Quite a tough one I have an answer to 8a letters -p-a- but I can’t parse the answer. Same with 20a I have letters -r-c-c-e but again can’t parse the answer that I have. 6 clues left to do not including those two

20: crossers correct, defn. "this one transports you"
Clever parsing (my COD): it's a hidden if a couple of (deviously signalled) letters are omitted from words!

8a - first 4 letters are "exam proposals" 'taken infrequently' (these aren't always every other or 2nd letter) - then last letter is "lecturer" - definition is "dismay"

20a - is actually a hidden but with the letters "near the end ignored" - definition is "this one transports you"

Not one of our favourites. So many answers are oh well must be that so put it in rather than really good cryptic clues. Didn't see the Nina. Found what it refers to in internet. Vaguely remember what it was.

I have two left. It's obvious what the second word is but is 25a a well known phrase for soldiers? I can't think what it is.

OK just got it. A phrase not meaning soldiers that I had forgotten.
