18/26 - a 1-letter abbreviation for Jack and a 2-letter word for appearing inside 5-letter word for books (large, heavy ones)

30a - a Scottish designer and architect who has the same name as your answer but spelt with an additional K that needs to be removed (K is apparently an alternative to Kb, kilobytes of computer memory)

I wasn’t keen on the “k” but Collins supports it.
I prefer it as an an indication of a work by Mozart :-)

And the two-letter word for appearing is not great either, but everyone here seems to agree, so I guess so. I didn't see anything else it could be.

Actually, I'm more comfortable with the "K." I've always used it, as in my first 30a had 512K. True story.

darla @54, for my second real job I worked on an early brain scanner whose computer was the size of a fridge freezer and had _32K_ (32 kilobytes. For operating system and application program.) of 'core' memory - individual little ferrite cores wired together manually! Hard to believe now...

I started programming on a PDP11. It was the size of a dustbin and had 32Kb of memory. It was set up for multi-user access! When I ws doing the exam marks on it, I had to throw everyone else off.

20a is a fairly obvious hidden. So obvious that it was almost my LOI, so I commiserate.
