5d - 3 letter "youngster" around 2 letter "ship" then 5 letter "kicks" as a verb - definition is "overbearing type"

15a - 5 letter "medieval instrument" (I reckon 99% of people (including me) will never have heard of this) + single letter "about" (or in be 2 letter "about" and "a" forms part of the definition) + "a" from the clue - definition is "novel name" (literally)

Sorry, I meant 6d not 5d.

Thanks a lot for hint for 15a. I got it straight away with your hints. I had even heard of the 5 letter medieval instrument.

But I'm struggling with the rest. I certainly haven't spotted any theme. I think I usually struggle with Brummie.

So a couple more hints may help. What about 25ac for which I have D???A?? I'm not sure about the A. I have no crossers yet for 2d. What is the definition? I'll worry about 3d when I have some crossers.

roof, your crossers on 25a are correct. Parses as 2, 5. Definition "perform a dental operation". Bit obscure.

2d definition "Old vehicles"

Hi Roof the A is correct. It’s a two-letter abbreviation for a US state then a five-letter synonym for scope, definiton is perform a dental operation.

Roof I’m not wholly convinced by my answer for 25a but I have it as two letter US state followed by 5 letter word for scope - all something the dentist does to your teeth! I think your A is correct

I just have 13d and 17a to finish - I have an answer for 13d but can’t parse it with a soldier and officer - it doesn’t fit with the usual US soldier?

2d - 2 letter "church" + "a" from the clue + "bold" (as in lively') + 1 letter "Sabbath" - definition is "old vehicle"

Noeyedeer, 13d does start with the usual US soldier.
