Well, I'm pleased to say that, having shifted the brain fog, I sat down and read the preamble slowly, with my finger under the words, chopped the crossword up and reassembled it. It's done!

Have to say it looks right/better if they're arranged with the 'larger character' reading upside down so they both nominally on the same floor iyswim. Then it's more like the publicity image.

Would that the Inquisitor would yield too, but that's going to take an even clearer head!

I have seven compass points and cannot for the life of me find a valid reason to discount any of them. I have three in the across clues: intercardinal, cardinal, intercardinal; and four in the down clues: intercardinal, cardinal, intercardinal, cardinal. Could someone tell me which of these is wrong?

@ukridge I had a possible extra cardinal in the downs but that would have given me 5 in the down clues. I'm intrigued by the second intercardinal in the across clues though.

The across clues contain one intercardinal and one cardinal. The other points are in the down clues.

Actually, Granama1, that second intercardinal looks more likely to be just a cardinal to me but I was swayed towards intercardinal by a response to one of my posts on Saturday. Other factors tell me that that one is the most suspicious of my seven though.

granama1 - I think the relationship of the two grids is fixed precisely in position and orientation by the film. I don't think you can have one of the actors upside down.

Smithsax, assuming my first intercardinal is right, is the cardinal in the across clues found at the intercardinal clue's number multiplied by three, or that clue's number multiplied by six. Sorry for the complicated way of asking. I'm just trying not to reveal too much.
