Jack - I think you are nearly there but not quite. You do not need to reinstate a cut line. I was convinced the film was going to be The Fly and wasted a lot of time trying to find it and its stars in the grid.
The clue from the misprints is strong. It will be a film you have heard of but if like me you have never watched it you may not know the plot is based on the uncued entries.
Think of a word is most likely to follow the words of the hint in normal conversation.

Almost gave up on this like 5 times. Appreciative to all posters in the forum this week for help getting over the line!

I was wondering - I feel like there is some clever wordplay involving the title and the words contained in the closed loops, but can't quite get there. Any ideas?

Thank you, Smithsax @111. I returned to this earlier today and realised that I had the right pieces but had made the wrong tangrams. Once that was sorted the rest of the endgame readily fell into place.

Thanks to Hawk for a challenging and occasionally infuriating puzzle. The “twist” that produced an otherwise missing letter was a treat..

Bump - just to get something which matters to the top of the page!

I’m so close but stuck. Full grid. I know the movie and can see both stars. Can also conceive how an apparently missing letter will be generated and how the end jigsaw will look. So it’s just finding cut lines.
I have 2 definite Across compass points. I have 3 confident Down ones - 1 intercardinal and 2 cardinals. Can anyone provide the gentlest of hints to how I find the last compass point? I fear it’s parsing the one clue I can’t quite parse.

Actually… no need to reply. The mere asking of the question here set me on a train of thought that has, I hope, cracked it. I have pencil, ruler, scissors… I’m going in!

Enjoyed that very much. Had one wrong compass point initially than led me to having to refill the grid. All straight forward once the right compass points are identified.

One loose end for me is the wordplay for 2d. I have what I assume is the obvious correction, but still can't see the wordplay

Thanks

The correction leads to an answer, and its precise definition provides the elements for the answer here.
