All the cardinals and intercardinals are exactly where they should be. All you need to find is which 6 of the 8 points are needed and in which order.
Nothing to do with where the letter occurs in the solution.

@polyn Thanks. Like I say, my brain is a bit fried at the moment. I'll park it (and the Inquisitor!) and come back to them in a day or two.

Does "a closed loop..." mean a single loop embracing both people in series, or two loops, one for each? I assumed the former, but can't achieve it.
My admiration for Norah knows no bounds - I do hope she's not an AI program.

It's the latter.

0pt0, #72 "Are the four small pieces used to make a smaller version of the large piece? "
I may be misinterpreting this, but I did not end up with 4 pieces in one grid.

Enjoyable puzzle so far with some nice clues, but dreading the origami if I ever get to that stage.

Yes 0pt0, sorry, when I replied to your message and said “yes”, I was answering the “is one smaller than the other” question. The number of pieces used in each is not as you describe.

Thanks to Mattrom (85) and Polyn (87). I will try again, having already found the name of a film star in a loop by positioning one of the smaller pieces next to the large piece.

I now have two similar shapes: a large one comprising three pieces and a small one comprising the other two. These shapes seem appropriate, bearing in mind where we started from. I have found a film which seems to fit with the wording given by the corrections of the misprints, but locating it in my revised grids does not work, because it requires the use of a letter which only occurs once in the original grid (in 1 across). Does the composition of my shapes sound right and is the lesser well known of the two film stars male or female?
