Does that help, useby?

I don't use the app, just Chambers hard copy, useby (and I'd be surprised if the correct word wasn't there, but I didn't even bother to look).

I'm pretty sure that word must be in Chambers, but I'm away from home right now and can't check it myself.

Drxx, yep I’ve completed the end game and it’s the final grid 21d that I can’t find in the app. Ah well, as everything fits and looks good I’ll live with it. Cheers.

drxx - The answer your Lear quote implies is the original answer to 21d which must be entered with the misprint the worplay suggests. Then there's an alteration carried out creating another word, coincidentally not a million miles in meaning from the 5th and 6th letters of the original clue, but this eventual answer doesn't appear in Chambers 2016 print edition. It is in the Oxford Dictionary of English second edition, revised (2005).

Thanks, will37 - I'd just twigged what userby was getting at. I must say I'm surprised such a common word isn't in Chambers - I didn't even think to check for it, but I will once I get home.

I meant "fifth and sixth words", not letters!

Everything is done except for the three features. Most hints so far seem to be about the third one, but I haven't even found the first two. There's a part of the song that I've been focusing on for the directions, but that hasn't gotten me anywhere. Could I ask for a nudge?
