Finding this much tougher than the rest of you! Have an almost full grid. Need some help parsing 34Ac and 39Ac as well as 23, 24 and 31Dn. Any nudges would be greatly appreciated as I’m desp to get it finished asap so I can get on with my life

Drxx, many thanks for trying to help me at # 32, but I am sorry to say that I still cannot solve 15 across or 24 down. I have tried to alter the last word of 15 across by adding the missing letter I require, but it produces nothing. In fact, there appear to be no letters which could be added to it to create a new word. With 24 down, Bill could mean the word surrounding RI (for Indonesia), but it seems very tenuous to me.

Cookie, I am afraid I cannot understand your comments at # 38.

34a - military jargon for 'intelligence', with the 3 core letters of 'battle' going around 'no good' [one letter being a misprint].
39a - military jargon for 'intelligence' 'long piece' (of material) around 'i' for 'current' [one letter being a misprint].
23d - add a letter to the 2nd word - 'offend' (obscure) 3 letters [think of the usual prefix for 'sleep'] + 4 letters for 'nobody'.
24d - Answer is a republic (with a misprint) the obscure word I mentioned earlier is something akin to slander.
31d - The first 'regular' is a soldier (US), the second is a 3 letter synonym [reversed] def 'holiday homes'.

0pt0 - 15a if you remove 'f(ellow)' from certain animals (that make the particular noise that is the last word) and then reverse the word you'll get an answer to do with old age.

I think I may have gone astray. My 21d doesn’t appear in the Chambers app, however it is the likes of the Oxford dictionary.

Drxx, thanks again. I had worked out the answer to 15 across, but my electronic version of Chambers does not give "maulers" plus the restored letter as a real word. It is only when I delete the last three letters and then add in the restored letter that it works. As for 24 down, I had come up with the correct Republic with a misprint, but I dismissed it because it gave me a second replaced letter A (I already have an A from 21 down), when I needed another E. Clearly I need to go back and re-check the relevant clues, which I have as 26, 34, 35 and 39 down and 21, 24, 25 and 33 down. Are these correct?

In 21d you reverse a 4 letter word for 'enraptured', the last letter gives you a 't' misprint for the necessary 'e'.

With that correction you could have the correct letters (together with the other clues you mention).
