bodhere - it is an anagram and comes up on the Chambers app search function or you can use anagram-solver.net

William - yes the letters are in order

what’s interesting about the preamble is that it doesn’t differentiate between the weaving of the across and down answers and yet many people seem to have interpreted it as only referring to the across answers (me included)

I wonder if it’s the mention of “crossing answers” looking like “across” or the fact that the down answers don’t have numbers next to them and it says insert them where they fit

I agree, candledave: the first sentence of the preamble is unequivocal. And given that both the across and down solutions varied from 7 to 12 letters in length, how could it be otherwise,?

Thank you, Candledave. The two anagram finders I normally use had delivered nothing. I should now be able to start fitting my answers in to the grid. Thank you so much.

Having chosen to highlight answers to aid identification of random weaving points I seem to have choices where 6 and 7 across intersect with the 8th and 9th columns. Doesn’t seem to matter for grid completion ( I think) A puzzle that first appeared harder than it actually was but still a stiff challenge for my level….many thanks Sabre.

Very much enjoyed this - a little more approachable than the average Sabre. 2 and 3 held me up for a long time, but finally got there.

Alpaca - agree there is a small degree of choice as to which of two letters is allocated to the solutions for 6 and 7, but as you say the grid is unambiguous.

Although, as usual, the rules seem to be a bit more flexible for this particular setter. 1a being a 9 letter answer with 5 unches, including not just a double but a triple.
