I'm struggling with this despite having many of the answers.
Would love more help with 10a (Brendan!) so I can start putting my solutions in the grid.
Also still don't have 'couple from Bath' one which would help a lot.
Assume definition is last five words?

I didn't fully parse 10. It may be a partial &Lit. The hall is a four letter word from Latin O Level. The "couple from Bath" is quite literally that!

....definition IS the last five words - there are various spellings.

Lumen - In 10a I took Florian's to be a reference to a famous establishment in Piazza San Marco. As bobbycollins said, the word for "hall" is from Latin and a 3-letter word for "are located" goes round it. The plural definition is reflected in the first for the solution's three words.

Thanks for nudges. Finished now apart from one clash. I can't fit the final letter of 3a in to the grid. Should go in column 11 or 12?
Any info appreciated, or I can wait for solution to see where I have gone wrong!

The final letter of 3a goes in column 12, Lumen, but the fact that you're wondering whether it could go in column 11 suggests that something else is not quite right.

Despite the generous nudges, the 'Monkeys' clue continues to baffle me, and entering the shorter solutions to the down clues is also foxing me. I do not understand the preamble bit about 'extra letters from crossing answers etc' either. Any further nudges gratefully received although I should probably admit defeat with so much left to do.

The preamble explains that the across clues may be interrupted by down entries. I can't hint at the down clue method of entry without giving the game away. All cells have an entry.
