gitto - i have the same - however can i check that the final application of the 4th across word is slightly different to the others? I'd also expect a bit more certainty that there is no more. Both these things, along with the fact that if its correct i have no idea how to proceed, are making me question if its right!

andyp, are you referring to post 28 or 30 or both. My 5,4,2,5,4 message seems to conflict with the 2nd 4,10 from the across message as I can't see how the 2nd of the 4's leads to that direction.

andyp, I've just sussed out my previous problem and think that the application of the 4th across word applies to the direction of impact , so to speak. Still stuck on what to do with the downs though.

Think that the A message is as stated for reasons stated. Also have no difficulty with interpretation of D message, just straightforward reading of the preamble plus message. BUT can't parse 31A def, not needed as all letters checked but it's driving me nuts! Help please!

Thanks for you help Drxx and HW at #25 and 26. I thought those three were very tough. 4a not coming up in most anagram solvers but is in Chambers of course.
Still ploughing on. Missing 3a (as recently mentioned), the Canadian artist! and 33a crystal one.

3a - First 5 words are the definition, last 3 the cryptic indication
The artist is on the wiki web page of female Canadian painters, use painters not artists in your search.
33a = Answer to be entered is 3 + 3 from the first two words in the clue, unmodified answer is 7 letters, the last one being latent.

can i ask - is the thematic phrase just two words? if so, im still struggling to know how to fit that in with the last two words of the D.
