Thanks jordan and G1 - I see it now.

Am I right in thinking that, notwithstanding the five reordered answers, not all of the thematic entries are real words as the appear in the grid?

No, midgers. All are real words.

Thanks cockie. In which case I need a steer. I have made five reorderings in thematic locations in the top half but I am still left with two thematically entered words in the SE corner which are not real words as they appear in the grid. What am I missing?

The reordered words in the thematic locations will be real words (ie the original answer and grid entry are anagrams of each other).

All are top half, because of the theme.

The thematic entries are obviously not real words as such, but chimeraic.

Thanks. Yes i appreciate that the anagrams are real words, but it does say that they make the crossing entries (which include thematic ones) into real words as well. However, one of these is a prefix and, of the thematic entries in the S half, one is a real word and two are not.

None of the reordered entries intersect with a thematic entry - as per preamble, the *locations* of the five are what’s thematic, not the wordplay, grid entry or answer.

HW7...the pfennig did drop after your recent question as to how I would describe the position. Thanks. I had become a bit obsessed with the shape made by 3 of them...but coloured pencils would not have helped. 😊

HW7, two of them do intersect, surely? (although they don't change anything). I'm left with six symmetrically located thematic entries, three of which are real words, one a prefix and two - as you say - chimaeric. Does that sound right?

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, they intersect but don’t impact (as you said it precisely correctly, the crosses don’t change anything).

I have two standalone chimeras - one first cell, one last - and two pairs of intersecting ones - one first cell shared, one last.

The whole thing has mirror symmetry.
