Ploughty, you might care to read the first post of the thread. It cautions against giving away information about the theme, especially where none has been sought, even on this “Answers” thread. Your post appears to do just that, even by asking if you’re on the right track

Quisling, in an obtuse way you have helped me by confirming that I am on the right track. So thanks. One last question. Why are people so sensitive about answers to this puzzle? You can get answers to other puzzles including prize puzzles from multiple sources. It does say answers only

I have an answer for 5a if “fruits” is actually meant to be “fruit’s.” Am I barking up the wrong fruit tree?

Also in 14a is “and” = “n” as in fish ‘n’ chips?

MPRS, kind of, it isn't the specific name of a fruit

Hi MPRS,

You need the plural "fruits" to get the S at the end which is then moved back/"west" a few places to give you the "festival".

Nobody wishes to see direct answers on this thread, and I can understand ploughty's frustration given its title - "Listener 4683 Answers Only". The nomenclature surely needs addressing?

I don’t wish to rehearse the old arguments that have been aired many times on this, Ploughty, even if they are new to you. Many people would prefer that no answers are given at all, as is the case on Answerbank. There is, after all, a yearly competition for all-correct Listener solvers. Folk start the puzzle and solve it at very different times and speeds, and if they come here seeking gentle hints, have their enjoyment ruined, because it’s impossible to unsee things. So in my view it’s a matter of courtesy to them to give only hints, and avoid giving the game away unnecessarily. But I agree the thread title is unhelpful in that regard
