Okay, many thanks Loge. I'll have a coffee and watch some football and then look at it again - hopefully I'll see what I'm missing:-)

Loge. Following our discussion about the Floyd recently, did you wonder, at an early stage, whether the “group” referred to in the preamble could possibly be The Who? 45 across? 😉

That didn’t occur to me, SS, though I did follow a shoal of red herrings!

Loge, likewise. Great puzzle from Dysart in this month’s Magpie as well, which my wife has just sent off.

Gitto, I seem to have got to the same place as you. I could make low arts or maybe owl star which would be the constellation noctua. But all I see in the grid are Greek deities. Am I on the wrong track anyone?

I now have a full grid and will grid stare later. Can anyone help with the parsing of 45a? I can make it work but only if Jesus is an exclamation which really doesn't seem right. God would be more fitting but still not feeling right.
Thanks.

Hi Sunray,

24a - Is a royal house (Scottish name) with the initial letter moving/transplanting to the end - definition is "trees"

37a - 2 letter "bone" inside 4 letter "split" (as in 'ripped') - definition is "bulging".

Neither a common words - at least I'd never heard of them.
