I am failing...about 50% done but I have several downs that I can't enter without progress on the acrosses.
The ones that a nudge would be a real help for are 29a and 44a.
Also 14a...it looks so easy but can't make it work.

29a: Replace the letter o with the name of a revolutionary in a word meaning remarkable (sort of.) Definition is strategy.

44a. Anagram (poor) of soul with a two letter word meaning out of bed.

For 14a, I was unsure at first too. I think "and" = "n" as in fish 'n' chips. Then e for debut of Elgar and l for Lambert, + a three letter virtuoso.

Thanks mpr.
44, good clue.
29, tough, but yes def for remarkable is in Chambers.
Don't like 14 !
Onwards.

Back for more help.
One letter in each across entry…..? Literally, so in row 9, three changes to three entries? Am I misreading it.
Also still need a push for 17a and 41a. Thanks.

Thanks bunty, that's what I thought 17 was. Dismissed the idea of putting a T within it!
Will think on 41.

Hi lumen,
yes each across entry in 12 rows undergoes a change of one letter;
17 a 7 letter word meaning musical (loosely, imo!) minus its T;
41 O(ld) + 7 letter word for judge minus AR
