Hello there, Rusty. Lovely of you to give this thread a bump. I was thinking of you the other day, simply because I came across a word that I think you have always liked. Maybe I am suffering from false memory syndrome - did you used to like 'stravaig'? It doesn't matter if you didn't, I've decided I like it myself! It has a nice ring to it, quite mellifluous (another favourite).

PS, my manners seem to have deserted me, Rusty. I hope you're well, busy, happy...

I like stravaig, Malone. It reminds me of solivagant, a lone wanderer, so a stravaiger. I suspect the ‘vag’ bit comes from the same Latin route.

Thanks, Jono. I remember exploring the word before and finding it all quite interesting. I might try to drop 'solivagant' into conversation this week.

PS If this thread continues, I might ask Norah if the title can be changed - the 2022 cakes will be fusty, very stale, by now!

Hello, Malone!
Nice to here from you! I am not too bad, thank you.
I hope you are likewise.
Yes, "stravaig" would be a word I would use.
My favourite word, that I accidentally came across in Chambers, is "taghairm". I remember chatting to Jazzgirl about it.
It's worth looking up if you have a Chambers to hand!
I actually ordered a "newish" Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary yesterday. The one I had was falling to bits, through use!

Hi again, Rusty. Glad to hear you're 'noot too bad' . (I know well the Scottish trait of understating things, so this might just mean you're not at death's door!)

I now remember your favourite word, it cropped up before. I always felt it would be a good word to plonk down at Scrabble. I've just had a quick check in Chambers. The definition is lovely and made me chuckle - and I thought I'd have difficulty casually inserting it into a chat.

Hello rusty
Goodness. How many years have passed since we laughed about Taghairm. Yes, I still remember our chat and the accompanying video "by a waterfall" 😀 Good to hear from you. Take care.

Hello, Jazzgirl!
Nice to hear from you. too!
I haven't been near a waterfall in ages, or a bullock!
Best wishes for now!

Rosalind posted this in the Phoenix Magazine 11th August but I have been asked to move it to the Chat Thread.

Hello all

I have had the most magical 80th birthday with my family and am about to sleep off the various glasses of I have consumed! Have also been for a long walk on a Pembrokeshire beach and learned a new card game, called Golf!

Have lots of book tokens, may finally get a Brewer's!
