On the subject of American v Britishisms, I recently found a nice little book by an American professor (Maurice H. Weseen) written in 1935 called “Words Confused and Misused”. Out of print now. My copy was printed in 1964. The preface says he was an “Associate Professor of English in the University of Nebraska”. He seems to have also written an “American Dictionary of Slang” in 1934 which sounds interesting. I suspect American slang has moved on since then ;-)

Enjoying `Wordle` but I scored a disastrous `5` today!
Apart from one lucky `3` I`ve been stuck on `4s`
If you want to try it ... https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html

Hi Tyke
I had a go, as I never have before (a 5), but how do you get the next one? There's a countdown clock that seems to indicate that I have to wait over 3 hours!

Hi Chris
It`s a daily puzzle - in the UK it appears at 12.00 midnight for the next day - not sure about other time zones - I find it fun!

Wordle in 4 goes today but my second 2 in 30 games yesterday with ROBIN after starting with BRIDE.

The chances of getting it in one are 8996-1 or thereabouts depending which dictionary or word list the New York Times is using. The odds may improve over time if you are geeky enough to keep a record of previous words, unless they can be used twice. (Actually there is probably a list on the internet - I haven't checked).

I will probably report on Wordle from now on only if I get a 1, 2 or fail. Will give up if the New York Times starts charging. The game isn't so good that I would pay for it.

What does Wordle display if a letter you have guessed is present twice (or more)?
