Hi DismantledKing,

23a - 8 letter word for "communicate" minus the usual 2 letters for "Her Majesty"/Queen - definition is "unharmed" as in 'complete' or 'in one piece'

PS - Your R is wrong.

the last 4 letters of 16d come from "actor not a" which will give you the correct final letter to 23a.

Thanks forum members. With your help I've nearly finished this one (I should add, we do them on Sundays with a lie in - I haven't been trying do finish this since yesterday morning!).

But I'm still having problems with 14A and 26A. I have a word for 14 but can't parse it but am completely at a loss with 26.

Any hints please?

Hi Brendan

Thanks you for your kind words. I do worry that no-one wants to hear about my life outside the crossword. But I shall tell you why I started so late yesterday - I went with a friend to see an "open garden" in the middle of nowhere in Devon - Shutelake. The garden was idyllic, but it was too hot to do much other than sit in the shade and enjoy the tranquillity. The only noise was from the birds and children playing.

I've finished the crossword now with a bit of help from my friend in Sheffield who described it as easy. I was able to help her last week as she hadn't got the theme. Like me she does the crossword on the newspaper, where there were no instructions.

Tell me, how do you manage to start so early?

Hi JossyP

I think 14ac was one of my favourites. You need to take a letter off a word for gender realignment and get a word wich (loosely) means convert.

26ac is just a double definition. The best meaning to get is plaster. Think of sides of houses.

Hi JossyP,
14a add a letter to the start of the word you have and I’ll think you’ll get it
26a is a double definition. Think of plaster as a building term perhaps

14 take the first letter off another way of describing gender realignment (reassignment, really)
26 the second definition is misleading - it's usually concrete!
