Hi Roof, don’t miss Beck, I’m really enjoying this series. All your letters are correct. Not many cities with two words…

Hi ParadigmShifter

I'm trying that, but I need to home in on where it is. I've made a guess but cannot parse it. I'm assuming it is in Wales.

Are there any really big cities in Wales?

It was in the top 100 largest cities in 2015 anyway.

Hi Roof,

5d - It's in Russia - A famous "fisherman" from the Bible + 4 letter "food" reversed/"bringing up".

PS Just watched "Beck" for the first time - very, very good:-)

There really needs to be a

tag on this site.

I was going to say they'd be rushin' to look it up on Google

A famous "fisherman" from the Bible

If a city's name has 2 words and the first word is 5 letters, there's an almost knee-jerk Biblical (or religious) guess... :-)

I really liked this clue once it dawned on me.

Thank you both PS and Brendan

I realise I have been to both places: the one I was thinking of - a small city - and the right answer, though the latter had a different name when I visited it back in the 1970s.
I'm panicking a bit as I spent a lovely afternoon visitng a delightful garden in the middle of Devon - so, so tranquil. And I still have lots to do. Beck was good. I read the books once, but that was back in the 70s as well and I can't remember the plots. They only wrote nine books. (Sjowahl and Wahloo)

Further hints required for 5ac and 12d. I can only find five words that fit the letters I have for 1ac which are ?P?R?A. Hints for this one would help. I've never been to Scunthorpe!

5AC you really need to get 13/18A first and that was a bit hard to parse.

12D I only got when I had all the crossers but "such as" means "for example" and the first letter is A. It's another candidate for clue of the day I think.
