hkwstuck - in 23 the "made fresh" is what you take the themeword out of to get the word for "tear". 25 - an unclued word to get the overall definition of "lark".

I can see 23 across now so it just leaves me with 25 down - I think I have the answer for it but cannot see why

A very enjoyable puzzle. I don't think anyone's yet mentioned 9ac yet? Hints would be much appreciated

I have three left and I've read through all the comments but I'm still stuck.
18a L_P_ - I can see a word for "cuts" but I can't get a flower or an "8" from it.

4a&4d have me stumped. Maybe a nudge for the first letter will help.

pb - there is some debate about 18 but I understand it to be an 8-letter word for yellow flowers with a theme-word removed at the beginning and the first letter of the remainder removed. 4ac is an American actress, the first name being a French novelist + the customary abbreviation for artist. The second name being entirely thematic.

Thanks prospero. How did I miss her - one of my favourites?

Is it acceptable to utter her surname over and over??

As for 4d, I was hung up on a more well-known US tap!

Still not happy about 18a. Vowel wants to be "O" (for the def) but "I" seems to fit wordplay better.

18a, the def is the def is "yellow flowers" not "cuts". "Cuts, head off" is the wordplay for what's left after 8d from the yellow flowers.

18a held me up since it's the only thematic clue where what's removed is plural.
