19, I think

19 seems to be a normal plural. 14 is the only one I don’t have and I can’t see an acronym, hence the assumption.

If 19a is an acronym, is it a medical one? It could also be a place in Northern Ireland.

I took it to be the acronym

Looked in re 18A, have same misgivings as pendragon.

Isn't the acronym 13A?

The acronym IS 19a. The 7 letter answer is the plural form of Chickens (as in people who are scared of others!) minus the farm animal to get a 4 letter medical acronym.
I'm afraid I'm still stuck on 17d (M-t----)and 24a (-t-i---c) and the parsing of the answer I have for16a. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Vandergraaf, 17d is a figure of speech. An anagram around a 2 letter Welsh term which I can't find in Chambers but comes up in Google.
24a. def. is 'outdated language'. Anagram + 'life story movie', minus the first letter.
16a, see post #4. Original is a flotation device.

I must be really dim - I've done most of this but have yawning gaps in the NW corner. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for 4 across?
