Thanks, Prospero, but I have 17 across. It is 17 down I can't parse.

And so 18 across has two cryptic elements. The flowers, less the 8 , equalling cuts with the first letter removed?

yes to 18. 17d is an anagram. Apply your Welsh to the first two words

Thanks, Prospero. I'm still not entirely happy with 18A, but I'll let it simmer.

Thanks: I had Native as the first word, it was the only way I could use what I thought was the Devon town.

henkeeper ... The one-word Devon town has a section internally switched for another, as in the clue.

All done, I think.

Just a niggle with 22d. I have a famous one of three, a theme word appears in the middle, but I don't see the three toed reference.

Reassurance would be nice. Or even correction.

Thanks. I wondered but on (too brief) Googling, they didn't show up.

Niggle resolved.
