I haven't got as far as trying to comprehend the endgame yet. The top half of my grid is mainly filled, except 1a and 2d which are preventing me getting 10a, also I'm not sure about my 3d as I can't parse it. So any hints to those would be much appreciated.

1a - requires thematic letters as 3,4. Bachelor is a young male of a certain species, which is hunted

2d - first three letters of four letter word for rescue from danger, plus two letter word. First letter of that lot omitted.

3D - Banks to unleash tracking the French monetary unit - ‘Banks’ are outer edges of unleash, following French for the; last letter omitted. Romania and Moldova currency.

I thought I was done, but I seem to have 24 shaded letters. Urghh.

I, too, am a bit mystified. I have a completed grid and have the 'confusing action' but can't see how to carry out the last instruction affecting 21 further cells. The 11 clues with the extra letters gives 14 additional letters in all. Am I barking up the wrong tree? (or just barking lol?)

Sorry - that's wrong - I mean there are 14x2 = 28 additional thematic letters added from those 11 clue answers...

Gazzar - but some of them are in the four main thematic items so have already been shaded so it’s only a further 21.

Indeed there are - but 7 of them are already covered by the 4 thematic answers.
If it's of any help, I have 3 further cells in column 1, then 312300101340 across the grid.
